Bumping of Daily comps

Options
Sorry if this is a rant and I don't want to be seen as having a go at anyone however, isn't the term daily and being listed as a daily comp enough.

I fully understand the bump when a question changes but when it's the same prize for x number of days I just find it confusing and wonder if there is something I have missed and open it to find "bump for today"

Sorry rant over but I am sure I am not the only confused one out there.

Carol, I agree with everything you said, including the nice bit about not wanting to have a go at anyone.

But there is no point to bumping any thread daily unless it is to provide new, daily information.

There are tons and tons of comps here that allow a daily entry. These include magazine dailies, lots of rafflecopter and Gleam, as well as plenty more that just allow a daily entry, or as many entries as we care to make.

Apart from anything, it is risky to rely on a daily bump for comps like these, because bumping them is clearly 'open to debate'. Therefore they might not get bumped sometimes. This means those who have subscribed for a daily reminder will miss out.

It is far better to each have a system in place for entering daily comps. I have a comping document that I add my dailes to. Every day, I go through the list and enter them. No need for a reminder, I rely on my own system instead.

The exceptions are when a daily entry includes a different question or prize. In which case a daily bump is useful because there is something new to report every day. These are worth a daily bump to save everyone having to search out the new information.

I agree, I don't see the need for them to be bumped.

When I see a daily first posted I bookmark it and I go through my current list every morning , I thought most people did the same if they enter regularly.

Imagine the chaos there would be if all the advents got bumped daily just because people couldn't be bothered to use the separate board.

I cannot see why anybody would need to look more than once at a daily - you bookmark the thread or more sensibly the site direct as not only is it faster to enter that way but you not need to hope the thread will be bumped so you spot it.
There is also less chance of new posts being missed in a mass of bumped posts and more chance of spotting if something genuinely useful is added to an original post.

this is why the dailies thread exists. it is very annoying, and purely for people to get their post count up, i don't even know why some people care so much about their post count.

    Totally agree.

But I am going to be randomly bumping to make the point that bumping one competition means that any competition can get bumped.

Also the I find it useful response is great but why then are those people bumping it? They must have got a reminder about the competition to know to bump it.

:rotfl::rotfl: Yeah, thought that was why Moneybot was bumping those dailies, a response to a recently bumped daily that had no new info. Agree with the majority, unless a question changes, no reason to bump a daily and it only makes wading through the Last Post listing more demanding. There are many ways to systematically enter dailies either by MSE options or your own methods.

Indeed, it is a protest campaign of bumping.

It was bad enough when it was just the stupid hummingbird competition all the time but at least with that there was a sort of purpose.
