Help with backdating SDP of an old closed ESA claim!

Hello,
I did a google search and found this forum.
I was on ESA income related previously roughly october 2015 until 2018 thats when I changed to UC because I was in temp accomodation and needed to change areas in the place the scheme gave me.
I also claimed pip alongside esa but that started on the 8th of december 2015. This was the daily living component with no mobility. I lived alone and didn't ever have anyone claim carers allowance for me.
I called either PIP or ESA some months ago regarding an underpaid payment, that convo lead to a diffrent subject of "SDP" and it seemed as I was eligble but I couldn't do anything until brexit had passed or something happened in court. Obviously with what's happened lately with SDP and UC in the news it refreshed my memory to call back regarding the SDP.
I was never on SDP the whole time whilst on ESA with PIP. I didn't even know about it I suffer with mental health so keeping track of stuff like that isn't the best of my abilitys. So I called up ESA on wednesday explaining my situation. The first woman I spoke to on the phone said that it shouldnt be automatically applied in all her 15 years of working theres its always been done by application. So I requested a manager then I finnaly got to speak to one and she "helped" me out. She got someone to do some ls10? form for me over the phone and said it will take 6 days to hear anything.
I called up today just to try go over somethings and found out that they only did it for 10 days apparently, So I did another form on the phone incase with my other address from my current one as thats where I was claiming esa/pip also.
I don't know if I am going to be told no or yes because it's a closed ESA claim and I never did claim myself before for it.
Can anyone genuinely shed some light her for me please.
Thank you.

I would say it's totally possible to claim the SDP for the period of time if you were entitled to it.
You'll just need to wait for DWP to make a decision on that claim, this can take a few weeks, maybe longer in your case because it was a previous benefit claim.
Once a decision is made they'll write to you.0 -
Hi poppy,
Thanks for the replie. They said I should know within 6 days by friday. Sometimes 2-3 days on average but they have up to 6 days to tell me or something I believe well I hope so.
So you think that it's possible they could say yes even though my esa claim is closed and I didnt apply before (bearing in mind not knowing). I'm not even sure what the calculation would be!0 -
Hi stephen,
As far as Im aware I haven't said I've rushed anyone or anything? lol Im only simply asking if it would be possible for me to even backdate sdp on an old esa claim?
Think you got your wires crossed buddy can totally see why you do not work for them anymore.
Also looking back through my post I never once said I was rushing them or implied that in anyway? Ive only stated what ive been told?
Just looking for advice that is all.0 -

Only from what they have told me on the phone.0

I'm not really too fussed about the timescale to be fair but I would hope to know what the outcome would atleast be next week fingers crossed.
Just worrying that they will say no but thank you for the help.0 -
Are you sure they didn't say 6 weeks? I had a similar problem with backdating SDP for a period - I made them aware that I wished to claim in January this year, it took until May 29th for them to finally say they owed me money, and I'm still waiting for the actual payment! Just warning you that it can be a VERY long wait!0

For what it's worth, 6 weeks does sound more likely than 6 days.
OP, regardless of timescale anything you get will be a welcome bonus so you just need to sit it out.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Yea of course I really don't mind about the timescale at all lol I was only just stating what was said. I was just more curious on if its possible to backdate SDP on a closed ESA claim , and if I didn't apply myself would it be possible to be denied on that?
Thank you guys.0 -
Well I don't know if they said 6 days for a decision or what not but only got told the benefit centre will respond within 6 days? No idea how long the timescale is after that to be fair i'd be going on what everyone here has experienced just will have to sit tight.0
