In most banking apps that support fingerprint logon there is a slider switch to turn it on or off

if you turn it off then you revert to entering a pein it is completely up to you you which you prefer

I would only add that I have an Android phone and I put all my banking apps inside the secure folder which you need a password or pin to enter before you even get to the app so it has a double layer of protection

But the fingerprint is only on your own personal phone. It's not like it can be hacked into anywhere else. If my phone was stolen, I just login on another device on my desktop and remotely wipe the phone.

It's more of a risk having your credit card stolen now that contactless has become the norm. Someone could have run up quite a few £30 transactions before you even notice your card has been stolen. I know you'd probably get the money back...eventually, but more hassle to sort out.
And that is the main point and difference people should focus on in these discussions.

Not everyone lives attached to the mobile phone. I have smart phone and use it, but I don't like the fact that I will need it for every purchase online. It's just a hassle.

So far, I haven't been hacked or defrauded on any card.

You've been very lucky. I am tech savvy and very careful but there was absolutely nothing I could do to prevent my debit card being cloned at what I thought was a reputable petrol station some years ago.

Total security and safety in life is impossible. There is always still SOME risk however many precautions you take.
