elsimsy, what you said. I think the LLs who post on here (if they are to be believed and I think some, *like G_M and theartfullodger, are) prove the exception to what, in my experience, is otherwise the rule as you have stated it.

I actually don't think there are many really good landlords - in my experience, they are either complete entitled !!!!!! like the OP, or people that have found themselves with 2 properties, and think it's easy just to rent them out, and then forget about them. Our current landlord is the latter.
Stick around on the forum and you'll meet many very good LL's here ...OK so they may not be your LL but they give their time free of charge to answer yours and others many questions when needed.
I'm not sure which category they fall into by your reckoning but they give some excellent advice in return sometimes for nothing but a hit on the thanks button....in S 38 T 2 F 50

Hopefully they fall into neither category - I did say there aren’t “many” really good landlords, not “any”. It’s just that I, nor any of my friends have experienced one.
My own landlord is not BAD by any stretch of the imagination - but he’s definitely a bit naive about what being a landlord entails.0 -
I'm a landlord who normally defend the right of landlords, but you are what gives landlords a bad name.
You only care about getting your mortgage paid and maybe more because you've decided to go abroad for a year. You think that a tenant should be able to find £5K to pay in advance and pay expensive fees, all this to be told in 12 months they have to go because you want the property back?
It's one thing to protect yourself, but it's another to exploit tenants and that's what you think being a landlord gives you the right to do. Unless you are very clear that the tenancy is for a limited time of possibly 12 months, which I very much doubt you'd share as it would seriously limit the interest in renting, it is extremely designeous to expect as much as you what you do. I think there is no selfisher stand than to intend from the start to rent for only a very limited time. Those are people like you, who will have a life centered around where they live, work, school, etc...
