Just wondering if all the above posters originally signed over to Powergen because they were the absolute cheapest at the time?
I switched because they were cheaper (not cheapest). Cheapest was Scottish Power, but they messed up my transfer by saying they never had initial readings about 2 months after I started the process, but failed to tell me until I enquired as to what was going on.

I was with SWEB & BG, like you. In hindsight I wish I had stayed with them. The saving quoted is an approximation, and quite frankly the time I've wasted with Powergen themselves, and letters to Energywatch, I wish I hadn't bothered.

True, they may be ok on some switches, but if it's a gamble you're willing to take then go for it.
Like a priceless jewel buried in dark layers of soil and stone, earth radiates her brilliant beauty into the caverns of space and time.

If powergen sent you a final bill for £117, it will only be because Scottish power told them (via change of supply reads, through D86) that’s what you owed. When you leave a company, it is the gaining supplier who supplies the previous supplier with the reads. The majority of final bill errors are down to gaining supplier… FACT!

Loon is correct. When changing suppilers, the best customer service opertor will be yourself. Take reads the day you want to change. First ring the company you want to leave and make sure that the balance of the account is zero, if not clear any outstanding balance. Provide them with todays reads. This will make cockups down the line less possible.

Then ring the new suppiler and say you want to join and give them the readings too, and ask them for a supply start date. Then the day before the start date ring both suppilers again and give reads. This proccess seams over the top, but well worth it to stop the final read and start readings being estimated and making the proccess a lot smoother.
