Changed email address but airline sent details about scheduled change to old email address

Options
Hi, I am hoping someone might be able to advise me about this situation.

I booked a Ryanair flight with an email address that I became locked out of. I changed my email with Ryanair months before my flight with them. However, they did not email my new email address but my old one which meant I wasn't made aware that the flight had been cancelled.

If I can prove that Ryanair didn't contact me at the latest fourteen days before the originally scheduled departure time I'd be able to claim compensation. However, do I have a leg to stand on here? I recognise it's unfortunate that I lost my original email and hat isn't the airline's fault but isn't there some responsibility on them to send details to an email address that you provide?

    In a word, yes.
If you have updated your contact details and they messed up thats their problem. It is up to the airline to prove they contacted you. ( assume you have checked the website has your correct email still?)

Did RA contact you in any other way with your new email, such as car hire etc?

  • Many thanks for your reply.

They contacted me with the usual junk to my new email address which is what they have on file but they did not contact me about the actual details about the flight schedule change. Ryanair claimed that they only send details about cancellation and schedule changes to the email address used to book the flight.

Why didn't you just do a password reset on the locked account?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I did but I couldn't get in. Long story short I tried to access the email in Africa on my phone which didn't have the password saved and I got the account blocked.

I think thats just an excuse from RA.
What is the point in updating your email if they fail to use it?
Claim in and take no for an answer.
