Thank you for all the kind words everyone!

PipneyJane the salad sounds lovely - I should think I could substitute the anchovies for a mixture of capers and olives to get a similar effect? I'm going to go through and try and update the recipe index with everyone's lovely contributions this weekend when I have a minute to think!

Give it a try Elsiepac. The anchovies are my addition. I put them in because I needed to use some up and they’ve stayed part of the recipe ever since. I think that the very first time I ate this, it was just lentils and spring onions dressed with vinegar and olive oil.

    Morning everyone :)

Small spend of £9.67 this morning (won't count the travel money I bought as well! :rotfl:), so rolling total is £39.77, not bad considering that the average daily 'allowance' for my budget works out to about £87 at this point of the month! :j

We're going away next week for a week, half board so most of our meals accounted for. Holiday money has come out of a different pot, and we should bring some back (we always do), so my GC money will easily last this month, maybe even some spare to roll over or save.

    A xo

    Fab, thanks!

No more grocery spends for me yesterday or today so I still have my £34.74! I won't be spending any later today either so that's to last just 13 days. Technically extremely do-able!

Very do-able. How I would do something like that (not that you asked, but thought it might help) would be to see how many days I can make from stores. If you can do 2, bit of creativity needed, which I know you have, that would then leave you 10 days left. Divided into 2 shops, you could spend £17 odd on a shop to last 5 days, that way you don't feel you are scrimping. I honestly feel that some of my best meal creations come from throwing together ingredients I have. That's what works for me, but we are all different. Anyway, good luck. So pleased to hear you love your new place.

Went blackberry picking with my niece yesterday and got another ton of blackberries, so washed n frozen. No shopping for me, apart from £2.05 on 4 seeded rolls, 4 panini and a bottle of Free From salad cream. I do have a load of tins winding their way to me for stores, costing about £11, but will update when they arrive. I'm out of many essentials (to me), mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber, but been eating out a lot, as I have a friend over from LA, so not noticed too much. She goes back Tuesday, sadly, so will be cutting back on that. Will shop tomorrow hopefully. p.s. the alcohol budget has not been touched - yet (ahemm) !!!!!!! Desperate to get fit again - I'm stiffer than an ironing board, not even exaggerating. Restart physio Monday, so hopefully will kick start me on my way. Have a lovely w/e everyone

I've spent £52.14 in Tesco. This has included 8 pork chops, 4 lamb steaks, casserole steak and the bargain of the week from the reduced counter, 5 lemon sole fillets reduced from £6.61 to £!.82. That's 18 portions of protein. I also bought some veggie meals for me from the freezer so shouldn't need much more for a couple of weeks.

We had a fillet of sole each this evening with peas and left over home grown potatoes fried with herbs, sea salt and seaweed and turmeric. Quite delicious and we shall have the remainder of the fish tomorrow. I now have £231.59 to last the rest of the month so I'm well under target.

£65 spent today, £45 at the market and £20 at the supermarket, which should buy us most of what we need for the week. That said, I'm feeding 8 on Sunday and OH's twin brother & highly-allergic young nephew are with us for several days of next week, which I only found out about an hour ago, so I may need to add a few specific bits on Sunday and/or Monday!

I'll bake a big loaf tomorrow, and make some extra ice-cream; I expect the girls will want to make some stuff too and that's where some unanticipated expenses may creep in. I did have a meal plan for the week but will have to re-jig everything so that I'm not producing anything with nuts in...

    Morning everyone :)

I haven't checked in since the 6th but all is well here!
NSD's for 7th and yesterday, so 5 out of 7 for the week :)

On the 8th I used £7 for the window cleaner and £20.12p on party buffet food for husband's birthday yesterday. So we came in with £5.37p left for the week :D

New £80 budget starts today and we are camping next week... so I have to find food that is cheap, healthy, vegan and easy to cook on a small gas stove... wish me luck!

£19.36 in Tosco yesterday, giving their own brand brandy a go, 2 y.s. cheese, I really enjoy those as prefer really matured cheeses, and a y.s. steak for tonight.
Do I need it or just want it.

The anchovies I specified are a very rare treat, marinated in vinegar without a grain of salt in sight. A taste of my childhood, growing up in what was then the fourth largest Greek city in the world. (Melbourne, Australia, actually.). We could buy them at virtually every delicatessen counter; in the UK, they’re quite hard to find. I love being able to take a small quantity and makes them into a meal, without losing their flavour.

(To people who don’t know what I am talking about, they are small, white fish fillets. You may have had them in Tapas or in Meze.)
