I was wondering the same.
It’s not necessary to renew it for a trip in February if it doesn’t expire until June :huh:Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

Many countries require your passport to be valid for 6 months of beyond the end of your trip - including, possibly, the EU27 in the future. Not sure if the US is one of these, but it's not a bad thing to have in reserve.0 -

Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. You don’t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this.0 -

I know that a few countries require this (but not as many as travel agents would have people believe
).
The USA doesn’t require this so there is no point in renewing early, particularly as you no longer get the extra months added on to the new passport.
Additionally, a new passport will require a new ESTA, so if the OP’s husband has a current valid ESTA (which only needs to be valid on the date of entry), that is another consideration.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Get a passport cover to hide your shame. Amazon have lots of them in navy with all the gilt embossing so it looks properly British.

Hopefully they'll be soon selling maroon covers on Amazon. I'll need to hide my shame too.

I'm old enough (and then some) to remember the old navy blue passports (or was it black ?) of yesteryear.
As a boy I was on my parents' joint passport - my name with place and date of birth only, no photo.
Dad could travel on it alone, or with me in tow - Mum could do neither, she would need a single passport if travelling alone, not that she ever would or did, but that's not the point.
Hard to believe such basic gender discrimination was given official sanction by HM government.0 -
Mine doesn’t run out till 2020 but I might renew in the hope of getting a maroon one so I can reminisce as I queue at various airports while the EU citizens stroll past.0

British embassies and consulates do not issue passports any more. If you lose your passport while abroad you can get an emergency travel document to get you back to the UK, but not a full passport.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0
