Here is my 30 year experience
I didn't insure first dog - total lifetime vet bills (that insurance would have covered) £300
or second dog-total lifetime vet bills £70
third dog I used to leave with friends while on holiday so I insured her - more for their peace of mind . kept insurance going for 8 years before I had a major claim - pyometria- £800 then they tripled my premium next year to £360!
From the money paid in you need to subtract Tax, administration (inc advertising), salaries and shareholder dividends or other company profits before any money is available to pay claims
All insurance is a gamble but if I spun a coin and offered to pay you 75p for a head while you paid me £1 for a tail - would you take it ?
AS suggested above put it in a savings account to reduce the riskTANSTAAFL !0
