From experience Barclays, Halifax and Lloyds let you collect from branch, although this was a few years ago.

You need to ask in the branch if you can collect card and PIN there - tell them you will show some ID when collecting, such as passport or photo driving licence. Stress your security concerns when you ask.

Ask at your chosen branch, they can only answer yes or no and if you don't get the answer you want then try somewhere else.

If you have a branch of Metro Bank near you, you'll be able to open the account in branch and collect your card and PIN at the same time. Just take some photo ID with you and proof of address. The whole process will not take more than 20 mins and if all OK, you can walk out with card, pin and cheque book if you need one.

A member of my family has just been asked to collect their new debit card from their local HSBC branch so they do it as well.

A conspiracy requires two or more people to be involved.

But in general the Fraud Act 2006 makes acts criminal whether or not there is actually any gain to the perpetrator or loss to the victim.

I'm not a lawyer etc, but for example misappropriating someone's debit card with the intent to use it seems like it would be an offence under section 6, whether or not any money was actually taken.

I have checked with Nationwide that bank that I intended to switch to and I was told that the card and the pin have got to be posted to the address where I live so that I is a no go for me

So I will probably go with Metro Bank . I know nothing about Metro Bank are they ok and safe

Some off you out there let me the pros and cons off Metro Bank

    Thank You
  • What pro's and cons OF (not OFF) are you looking for?

What may be a pro for one person is a con for another.

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you open an account with Metro. They're a good bank to deal with, excellent website/app, open 7 days a week, they have excellent interest rates for savings accounts, oh....and they let dogs in their branches:D. No other high street bank does that.

Pros (from my personal perspective). Opened account by simply walking in and asking. They said 30 minutes wait to see an adviser. I assumed that meant 40 minutes which was OK with me. In fact it was a 25 minute wait and 20 minutes after that walked out with the account open and a new debit card. They also offered me a credit card, which I declined, and that too could have been printed on the spot.

No initial deposit or minimum monthly funding required.

No minimum number of direct debits required.

You can withdraw cash at the MasterCard rate with no fee payable in the SEPA area.

I find it a useful back up account, and use it for cash withdrawals in Europe. No cons for me.

At the risk of stating the obvious, read their requirements for ID documentation required and take that with you. They do a credit check and you need to be identifiable electronically.
