That's not exactly true. It's totally possible to claim housing benefit/Housing element of UC when renting from a family member but it must be a commercial arrangement, rather than just a family "arrangement"but some know it all suggested i claim housing benefit so that she could have an extra income to her pension. I looked into it and was flatly told that because it was a relative that owned the house i could not claim housing benefit.
See link. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/benefits/housing_benefit_renting_from_family0 -
Left nearly 6 weeks in employment without a penny, I grabbed £317 weeks benefit money without a hesitation two weeks still to payday. I'm still deciding how much to pay a creditor so I'll not profit alone...
Told myself the week's I lived alone without a penny from anywhere in April and May certainly made up for it when employers happily put back starting dates and thought nothing of messing me around.
Never heard from my council re council tax reduction, nearly 5 weeks on.
And funnily enough no one can advise zero-hours work to me, it's almost as if I'm talking double Dutch.
Very wrong to think someone is enriched on benefits.0 -
Strictly speaking because her husband is away from the house several nights this doesn't mean she can claim as a single parent . The DWP do have powers to investigate both their finances and speak to people willing to to be a witness , so I would report them
I was involved as a witness for the prosecution in a similar case , this dragged on for 5 years , and amazingly the jury found her not guilty ,Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
she claims income support and child tax credits
if they are married then tax credits should be as a joint claim
you must make a joint claim if:
you’re married or in a civil partnership (and not permanently or legally separated)
you live with your partner as though you’re married or in a civil partnership
you’re temporarily living away from one another, for example looking after a relative or working away from home
your partner is working abroad for the government
https://www.gov.uk/claim-tax-credits/joint-claims
it sounds like they are still a couple and not legally separated so if she is claiming as a single person then this would be incorrect (even if they do not live together)
you could be doing her a favour by reporting...the longer it goes on the higher amount of overpayment would need to be paid back0 -
Perhaps the OP should leave it to the professionals.

There are a lot of tools available to councils and other organisations. Data and pattern matching can turn up a lot of these cases for further investigation. No point in doing work that is already been done at a high level, using access to personal information not available to the man, woman or chosen not to say on the street.Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

By all means report them for fraud, but you won't get to know how the claim is progressing, so this may get your back up as well knowing they may get away with it even though they have been reported.
Benefit fraud claims can take months to complete.
If they are defrauding benefits then they will get caught“You’re only here for a short visit.

I know a person who claims housing benifit for a house she rents from her aunty she claims income support and child tax credits she holidays abroad 3 timea a year and has a holiday home she visits most weekends but her husband works full time for a building firm because he gets fed up with the kids he takes himself off to his sister's to stay so he isn't sleeping at his wife's house 7consecutive days because of this she claims benifits she says because he doesn't always stay there she can claim benifits but surely if that's the case everyone who has a partner that works away all week and only comes home on a weekend could claim benifits they have a lovely lifestyle but because he doesn't live there full time she can get benifits and she's breaking no laws surely this is wrong she claims as a single parent and says if dwp watched her they would see nothing because he's only there 3 or 4nights a week he pays no bills and only gives her cash nothing through the banking system but there openly a couple as they holiday together socialise shop etc as a family I just can't see how this is correct has the benifits system gone mad and is allowing this to happen
You can report this online and you don't have to give your details. Or you can report by phone if you would rather. It will be looked into, to see if she is commiting benefit fraud.

I always wonder why people come here to seek our permission to report someone ?? OP if you think they are breaking any laws then just report them to the DWP, but be careful you are in possession of ALL the facts.
The fraud staff look into the facts.
Are you trying to stop people reporting fraudsters? If not, what are you doing? I don't understand.0 -

What makes you think venison is trying to stop OP reporting the fraudster. He explicitly says "OP if you think they are breaking any laws then just report them to the DWP." He's simply expressing puzzlement that OP appears to feel they need permission from an online forum before making a report.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
How does the OP know so much about the benefit claimant ?
I presume a troll who loves to gossip.0
