Is this right or.a benifit cheat

I know a person who claims housing benifit for a house she rents from her aunty she claims income support and child tax credits she holidays abroad 3 timea a year and has a holiday home she visits most weekends but her husband works full time for a building firm because he gets fed up with the kids he takes himself off to his sister's to stay so he isn't sleeping at his wife's house 7consecutive days because of this she claims benifits she says because he doesn't always stay there she can claim benifits but surely if that's the case everyone who has a partner that works away all week and only comes home on a weekend could claim benifits they have a lovely lifestyle but because he doesn't live there full time she can get benifits and she's breaking no laws surely this is wrong she claims as a single parent and says if dwp watched her they would see nothing because he's only there 3 or 4nights a week he pays no bills and only gives her cash nothing through the banking system but there openly a couple as they holiday together socialise shop etc as a family I just can't see how this is correct has the benifits system gone mad and is allowing this to happen

Have you heard of punctuation? Trying to breakdown your rant, it seems that you are complaining that you have heard that someone may rent a property from a family member and therefore she shouldn’t get housing benefit, that she stays in a holiday home and that her partner stays away rather than being part of the household. Is that right? If so....

*Have you seen the tenancy agreement? The council obviously feel it is a commercial rental price.
*Do you know who owns the holiday home? Owning one is very different to going to stay with family every so often, especially if she is a single parent.
*The partner may or may not live there. The individual has clearly been checked and it is felt that she is single. Remember that it is possible to be treated as single even if you have to live in the same property due to financial constraints.

In other words, you sound extremely jealous. If you have any foundation for your supposed complaints, by all means report it. If, however, you are just jealous that someone who has responsibility for others without support 24/7 gets financial help so that they do not become homeless, tough!

A merchant seaman might be at sea for 52 weeks of the year but for benefit purposes his wife who remains at home and her husband who is at sea are still treated as a couple.

In law there is no minimum or maximum nights of the week someone can stay at a property.

They are a cohabiting couple and are commiting benefit fraud. They think they are being clever by having him sleep elsewhere fr a few nights of the week.

    So report them ....
    I would in a heartbeat.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I always wonder why people come here to seek our permission to report someone ?? OP if you think they are breaking any laws then just report them to the DWP, but be careful you are in possession of ALL the facts.

I've never claimed housing benefit myself but my mum used to own a house i was living in when i wasn't working. She didn't live there and didn't want any rent from me, but some know it all suggested i claim housing benefit so that she could have an extra income to her pension. I looked into it and was flatly told that because it was a relative that owned the house i could not claim housing benefit. Maybe that was because our surnames are the same but I guess some people can always find a loophole or be very economical with the facts when filling forms out, eg not letting on they're related, if they're unlucky they'll get found out eventually though.
