That's the key.
Normal wheel bolt...
So what you're doing is introducing a "coded" bit in between the hex that you use the wheelbrace on and the actual fastener.
Every competent garage will have a set of locking wheel bolt removers - they work by chewing and biting into the bolt that you've lost the key for, so it needs binning. But that's not a problem, because you haven't got the key for it...
But we didn’t lose the key, the dealer said one wasn’t needed. But hey I’ve learned something, just so pleased all the garages I’ve dealt with have known what I’ve meant by locking wheel nut (oops) dunno why they’ve never corrected me to key!0 -

See the dropdown on that page, asking you to pick from a long list of "available options"? That's the security pattern between bolt and key. It isn't as simple as one-size-fits-all. The key number may well be in the service book. (I presume the car in question is one of the Vauxhall models listed, and they're the factory locking bolts)
Yes, they can tell you which you need... As it says in the description... "If you don't know which key you have, please email a photo to <email address> along with a copy of your V5 registration document and we'll try and match it for you."0 -
I honestly don't think you are getting the full story from your daughter:Devientenigma wrote: »I know a garage was also involved alongside the AA as they obv didn’t have a wheel, either the AA or the garage put a normal nut on. She’s been in discussions with her uncle over this as he works for the AA and he thought nothing of it. I’ll ask her if she got a bill.
Changing a flat tyre is a few minutes job for an AA man (or woman) and if they had to get a garage involved, this means that the car was either transported to the garage or a mobile mechanic would have been called to the car on the motorway.
Either way, there is no way that this would be done without the reason why being explained.
Your daughter was probably informed about the missing key and didn't bother doing anything about it or simply forgot.0 -
The garage have been more than fair by offering to replace the nuts.0
