Problems with a car

  • Absolutely. She needs to learn how to carry out regular checks on the car which I suspect she doesn't do, and to check that everything she might need is present. Does she have a spare wheel, does she check it's inflated, does she check the tyre pressures regularly, the oil level, etc etc.

She can't blame the garage for all problems arising from the lack of a wheel nut she should have checked was present when she bought the car.

Trouble is, she trusted the garage and they told her the car didn’t need one!
But yes she needs to learn.

What's caused the extra cost is not dealing with the problem at the time and expecting the dealer to sort it two years later.

She didn’t know it needed one and the garage said it didn’t, sadly.
  • I would be very surprised if the AA removed a wheel with a locking nut without the key/adaptor at the side of the motorway and if they did, not advise your daughter of this.
Are you 100% sure that the car was supplied with the locking nuts and these aren't something that your daughter fitted at a later date and has subsequently lost the key?

The wheel the AA changed is now the only wheel that is able to be removed as they didn’t put the locking nut back on. It’s the same wheels she got with her car. The dealer has said the paperwork is conflicting and the car did go out without a wheel nut.

I would guess her ex's dad's lost it.

The paperwork the dealer has, says she never had one.

So the AA used a remover to get shot of the locking bolt without the key, and substituted a plain bolt. There is no way on this earth that they did this without telling her - and I'd be astonished if that wasn't in writing. And, probably, charging her for the replacement bolt.

I know a garage was also involved alongside the AA as they obv didn’t have a wheel, either the AA or the garage put a normal nut on. She’s been in discussions with her uncle over this as he works for the AA and he thought nothing of it. I’ll ask her if she got a bill.

But you bought a tyre as it's bald.

Let her deal with it. Don’t continue to do all of this on her behalf. She’ll never learn.

Sorry, that was in response to the locking wheel nut, the garage said she didn’t need one.
