Ebay change feedback if refunded.

Would you change your feedback stating an item would only work sometimes and not reliably if the seller offered a refund.

Bought the item a while back and only just got around to using it, only to find that its very intermittent and sometimes it works and sometimes it wont.

Its a bluetooth connected device and its pot luck on whether it connects to the phone, thought i had solved it by removing the item and doing a clean scan and then connect to it. But after doing that a few times it repeated the main problem of not being able to connect.

Seller not happy with my comment on it being unreliable and has offered a refund for a change of my feedback.

Would you change your feedback or would you leave it as a warning for other buyers that the product maybe poor quality?

Sub £10 item, purchased direct from a Chinese seller. If that makes any difference to your choice.

When it comes to ebay, aren't you 'reviewing' the seller rather than the product?

I'd be inclined to modify my feedback to something like 'Item received faulty. Seller refunded.'
  • Personally I would have left feedback based on the way the seller handled the issue when they were told about it.

Any comments on the way item functions are a product review.

The seller presumably didn't know it was a faulty product and when they learned of the problem, have fixed it by giving you a refund. On that basis, yes I would amend the feedback.

Good points but if this seller has faulty units or clone units not capable of doing the job should buyers not want to know that?

I made no comment about the seller or the transaction itself which i gave full stars. Its just my comment on the item not working.

Snowtiger they dont want me to mention the item was faulty either. Thats what they want removed.

These sort of sellers let you change feedback and then don't give you the money.

Yeah seen threads where that happened, wonder if they have purchased a load of these items and have found they are cheap clone units but still need to sell them?

As is often the case with Ebay there are two sides of the coin and people think differently, like SnowTiger who says its about reviewing the seller not the product but what sort of seller sells known faulty items and offers buyers a refund as long as they remove any feedback saying the items dont work properly?

How many ebay users think once its bought then its theirs with no chance of a refund?
I know its easy to return/refund this item but its not expensive and I plan on taking it to bits to compare to a proper one when that one arrives.

Usually Chinese sellers offering cheap tat for sale.

The difficulty these days is wondering whether the more expensive UK sellers are selling the exact same tat.

I would buy from a seller whose feedback stated they refunded for a faulty item. I don't want to know reams of "quick delivery, 5 star" - I'm mainly interested in how a seller responds to a problem.

OP - I would agree to add to your original feedback, not change or remove it. That is far more helpful to future buyers. I'm always suspicious of "withdrawn" feedback.

Should have just saud what it was, its an car OBD reader, they all appear to be indentical and must use the same labels even though the actual internals vary.

Its rather pot luck on whether you get a good one or a rubbish one, if your using basic software to read a code then your probably OK with all of them. When you need it to read more than the code is where some fall down. So the £5 ebay ones are indeed identical to the UK sellers charging £20+

Purchased a Ford one a while back and that was all good, purchased another from the same seller and it used a different chipset, they look identical side by side.

No way of telling the good from the bad until you plug it in and use it. This one only connects to a phone/tablet about 75% of the time and sometimes drops connection.

I have an ancient bluetooth one that will only read the basic data, thats years old and still works perfectly. Just needed one which connects to HS and MS systems, old one was purchased before that even existed.

I have no issues getting a refund if i wanted one, but its cheap and i would rather take it to bits and compare to a better one.

So do i remove the feedback stating its faulty or leave it be? I cannot mention it being faulty in the feedback if they refund.

Of course you can mention faulty, whether or not they refund. You are supposed to leave feedback which will help future buyers - not just stroke a seller's ego, that is the whole purpose of feedback.
