New battery in phone waste of money?

Hi, I've had a Samsung Galaxy S7 for about 2 years. For the last few months I noticed that I had so little battery by about 4pm that I had to plug it into my car usb to keep enough charge in it. Don't use it for much, emails, text messages, maybe half an hour of sat nav per day. Took it into a local Mr Fix shop and had the battery replaced (£40) but it's not made an iota of difference, ie turned phone on 100% charge then 15 mins later it was 95%!
Took it back and the guy just talked jargon to me and sent me on my way. Should I take it back again and try to get a refund or is it likely that a new battery wasn't really going to help anyway, in which case should he have told me that, although highly unlikely if he can get a sale. Any help (none jargon please) Thanks.

Is that a removable battery? If so you could have changed it youself. Perhaps he didnt have one in stock so bluffed it.0

No it is not. If you had a replacement battery done by a guy round the corner it may not have been the same like for like battery... OR it may be something on your phone depleting the battery. Check what apps are running in the background (you already mentioned satnav, if that is running in the background then that will definitely deplete the battery).
This article from Feb 2019 may help: https://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-stop-android-apps-running-in-the-background-664842/
In addition make sure that the phone is on the latest OS.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

I know one of the Samsung series of phones (it was a 7 series something) was effectively nobbled by Samsung to stop the batteries exploding by reducing the reported capacity of the battery to next to nothing.0

Battery drain can be the amount of background Apps running and sending data to the supplier of the App turn off all apps you don't use regularly and see if that improves the battery life.
My DooGee BL 9000 was lasting a day on a full charge but when I just put it to phone and text messages it lasted over two weeks on a charge. Apps running in the background use power and drain the battery more than you think.Someone please tell me what money is0 -
He gave me my old battery back so I have to presume that it's a new battery that's gone in. He's glued it back so I can't check, don't really want to fiddle with it in case I break it! I do try to close anything running in the background regularly, I just thought a new battery would bring it completely back to life ?0

Surely the battery need time to condition, a few full or nearly full discharges and recharges?0

Battery calibration charge 100 then discharge as calibration is on the battery .
5% drop from startup is about normal .
SatNav and mobile network is the probable battery eater .0 -
