when did which of them advise that? Have you got links please?Even the mobile phone companies have advised that codes sent to mobile should not be considered safe.
Isn't that your answer then? Move your business to Halifax (or Lloyds or BoS, as the do the same).Halifax also send the code to a safe landline.0 -
Can anyone help or advice please. Santander are now making 'online Banking' only accessible with a Mobile phone which I do not own. I have tried comparison sites for current accounts which do not require a mobile but have yet to find one where this is a criteria. A problem with Google is that it is hard to search for a negative - 'no mobile' generates a list of banks who only allow banking on a mobile. I have found a couple but only with a massive amount of effort - any suggestions, help appreciated - just to pre-empt i am rarely out the house and have no use for a mobile (I had one for 15 years) and giving it up was the main upside of being made redundant. Its an expensive item just to get codes from Santander. Codes sent to a landline would be greatThanks - i thought i had made it as clear as possible that i will not be buying a phone at any price (and a contract or PAYG and faff about with yet another thing to recharge to run my bank account. There are hundreds of thousands of people in the UK who do not own a mobile - all my family for example. Even the mobile phone companies have advised that codes sent to mobile should not be considered safe. Halifax also send the code to a safe landline. I can assure you that buying a mobile is not beyond my capabilities just a waste of money and an annoyance. I wont be buying a helicopter either as i cannot fly one

Thanks Zanderman i had found one of the links - the other one was extremely useful - most grateful
It wasn't in the least bit clear that you wouldn't be buying a mobile phone at any price.
You also said: 'any suggestions, help appreciated'.
If you say that any suggestions or help are appreciated then why get shirty when someone offers a perfectly reasonable solution to your problem, especially when you were not at all clear in your original post.0 -
Lets not jump down the OPs throat, they were asking for options for a non-mobile linked bank account. The reasons why are irrelevant.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

Not sure the mobile phone companies shout from the rooftops about it.
But here's some coverage from the police:

'just to pre-empt i am rarely out the house and have no use for a mobile (I had one for 15 years) and giving it up was the main upside of being made redundant' - sorry this was not clear -i will not be reintroducing a mobile into my life unless someone pays ME at least £30 a month for the incovenience. Sorry if you thought i was being sh.... but all the responses apart from 1 just told me to get a mobile as if i had not considered this.0

no links I'm afraid - it was on the radio - remember that - the money program. They have an item a couple of times a year about how someone has been scammed by intercepting an OLTP code. My memory suggests that it is easiest on a Pay-as-you-go(?) phone0

yes poor analogy
As for technology I have a strict rule for using technology - it has to make my life easier and not waste my time. Many 'modern' technologies have been around a long time. I used email, instant messaging, cloud in the 80s although with more limited functionality. I had a car/phone/mobile 25 years ago (bit late on that one). I was the first one in the IT company i worked for to use a new search engine called Google.0 -

You're perfectly entitled to take that attitude, but conversely you'll have to accept that you won't be able to bank or pay online with the banks that require the technologies that you choose to reject, once they've tightened their security regimes to comply with the new regulations. As for technology I have a strict rule for using technology - it has to make my life easier and not waste my time.
As pointed out in earlier posts, you effectively have three choices:- Use banks whose policies on strong customer authentication are consistent with your expectations (you know of some already)
- Don't use online banking or buy stuff online (millions are quite happy to get by without either)
- Accept that things are changing and go with it

I appreciate your frustration - I'm not a great fan of mobiles either (but I have used them, not initially through choice, since the late 1980s (yes they have been around that long!) when they were a requirement for my work).
I would point out though that in this case, a mobile will meet your strict rule - it will, if most/all banks require you to have one, make your life easier as it will enable you to continue using online banking. Not having one will make your life more difficult.
And having one won't waste your time. Unless you start using it for unnecessary stuff...0
