I assume, then, that your'e not one of those drivers who hoots a farewell as they drive off.

These people are just the worst, we have one a few doors down...

To the OP, I'm sure you're being considerate but I wouldn't worry too much. There's a lot louder out there.
It's about consideration - if you make effort to be quiet by not revving like a nutter, 99.9% of neighbours won't care.
My modified BMW 330d (old old old) is very rattly and noisy on start up, but I leave the road pretty much at idle and have had no complaints.

Even worse, those who arrive to pick someone up and rather than get out of the car and knock at the door, just sit in the car and hoot the horn. Lazy twots, hanging's too good for 'em.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

My daily commute is likely to be about 30 miles in total, but I also want to do a 100 mile journey once or twice per month. I've been browsing second-hand Leafs (Leaves?) on Ebay, but I think I might wait for the technology to mature for another year or so.

If you can find a 30kWh model you can do 100 miles without charging no problem at all. You should be able to get a decent one for around £13k now.

I have a toyota yaris hybrid. You don't hear anything when starting the engine.

Come & be my neighbour, do not worry about a standard Fiesta.

My neighbour is in the car industry & every car he brings home ( he has loads) has to have a loud exhaust on it, the louder the better. He also likes to give a few taps on the throttle to hear it, bit of a numpty really.
