The only thing that wakes me up is car doors being slammed. But no, full marks for being considerate
  • If your 1.25 fiesta is noisy then it has a problem. Perhaps a hole somewhere in the middle of the exhaust manifold?

Get a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. If your going to wake people up anyway you might as well do it properly.

I'm noise averse.... what's more important is that you're considerate when you use the car, not that the car makes a noise.

e.g. don't slam the doors, if they need a slam stop 50 yards up the road and wake up somebody else's neighbours.
e.g. make sure the stereo's not on full blast when you turn the ignition
e.g. make sure you pull away slowly and don't burn off.
e.g. don't give it a throaty roar before you pull off/as you pull off.

If you're using the car considerately, people won't mind it's noisy because they know you won't do something that's actually annoying.

Nobody minds people living their life - it's when you're being actually inconsiderate that it winds people up.

EVs (and Hybrids using battery) are practially silent, road and wind noise is an issue at speed. Lot of money to spend for such an issue though, pity not everyone is so considerate.

Obviously check an EV/Hybrid makes sense for your budget and mileage etc.

They are but with a self charging hybrid you can't guarantee it'll not use the engine first thing.

the doors are probably louder than the motor so you'll want an old peugeot 1008 except you wont coz they're rubbish.

    Exactly this for me too.

Neighbour leaves early and its definitely the slamming of the boot and then the drivers door that I always hear, the car starting and driving off is ordinary background noise.
If I am woken up and then a few seconds later hear the car start, its the door that has woken me.

I assume, then, that your'e not one of those drivers who hoots a farewell as they drive off.

My daily commute is likely to be about 30 miles in total, but I also want to do a 100 mile journey once or twice per month. I've been browsing second-hand Leafs (Leaves?) on Ebay, but I think I might wait for the technology to mature for another year or so.
