How many charges will you require/how long will you be going before you can charge the phone/battery pack - the likely interval may dictate your mAh requirements.what do I need to know before I buy one.
Some of them are quite heavy - may be relevant if you are intending to carry it around.
Some of them take quite a long time to charge.
My son has one of these

Not the smallest but the capacity should be good for up to 7 charges of an iPhone 7 if my maths is correct*
My Daughter has one of these - often takes it on nights out as its relatively small and definitely handbag size.

Probably good for 2 or 3 full charges of an iPhone 7* Her and several of her friends often 'top up' their phones on this towards the end of an evening.
*post your handset and we can work out how many likely charges you will be able to perform from any given battery pack.
Hope this helps0 -

firstly what phone do you have?
check its battery capacity.
eg my samsung s10+ is roughly 4300mah, so a 10000mah would give 2 and a bit FULL charges (from zero).
i have a small (8cm x 3cm) one and its 5000.
and a bigger one thats 20000
anker is the go to brand for me. i have there power banks, and cables (a good quality braided cable will be £7-8, but last ages!)0 -
I've had an Ankher, fine but died after a few years. Currently have a Poweradd, still working after a couple.
It meets my use critera, in that it keeps the phone at 100% with the screen on full brightness and the GPS on.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
What type of holiday are you going on?
If its a hotel with access to mains then a smaller powerbank will be OK, if you are going camping then you will need something with a larger capacity ( and a larger less portable size)0 -
I have an Anker 20,100 mAh one, it’s heavy but is used to power other kit, not just charge a phone. It’s useful if going on a long trip by coach or train, or camping, where charging can be an issue.
If flying, be aware that while carrying such battery banks is currently mostly OK, the situation may change as airlines are quite touchy about anything with lithium batteries. Note the recent on-board fire on a Virgin Atlantic flight that was reported to have been possibly caused by a battery bank:

I got a Lumsing 10,400 mAh one. It was cheap, but really well-made. I've had it a few years, and no problems at all with it.

My phone is a Lg K8 2017 with a 2500mah battery. The battery will last all day on standby but it only lasts about 4 hours when on the internet so I want a backup for the 6 hour coach trip to blackpool. I don't think I will need to charge my phone more than once while I'm out but I think it's best to buy a power bank with more mah as my girlfriend can use it when I get back. How many charges will you require/how long will you be going before you can charge the phone/battery pack - the likely interval may dictate your mAh requirements.
