To answer the specific questions asked on this thread
    1. From the information given in this thread and the other thread I can see no reason why the default should be removed as it would appear to be factually correct.
    2. Are you and your wife linked in your credit files as being financially associated? If no, then her default should be having no effect on you whatsoever. If yes, then some lenders check the files of financially associated people wile others don't. However in isolation, I don't think that a 3 year old default on your wife's credit report should be having the drastic effect on your personal ability to obtain credit that you imply.

You don’t have an “excellent score”.
Well, you do for fun only - lenders don’t see or care about it.

    What’s your complaint about exactly?
His wife has a default on her credit file and because there is an association through the mortgage believes he potentially could be declined if he decided to apply for credit, but hasn't been declined yet as hasn't applied but fears he might be even though the default is not on his credit file .
  • My credit score on experian is excellent, its my wifes which is poor and was wondering if its her score that is affecting me applying for credit as we are associated financially with a joint mortgage

The "scores" play no part in lending decisions.

They're purely there for marketing purposes

When applying for a financial product the institution may or may not carry out a credit check on any linked person so any negative on her file is likely to be taken into account. Neither her or your score has any bearing on those decisions, it is based purely on the data held in those files.

Have you actually applied for anything yet and been rejected?

No one will know whether your wife's credit history will affect your ability to gain credit as each lender is different. Some lenders will run a credit check against you and anyone else you are financially associated with - others just run the check on you. But it's luck of the draw really because as stated, you won't know if they ran the hard credit search on you both until after you have clicked apply.
