Partners Credit Score Affecting Me Applying for Credit Cards

My partner has a poor credit score due to an old Credit Card she had closed down a few years ago but there was £16 of interest remaining she was not told about and when we did a credit file check is now £700 with defaults for 3 years!!! We have asked the bank to write it off as she was not notified of this but will not and is affecting me applying for credit cards.
1.Can anyone advise what rights my wife has about the defaults can the credit card company remove them ?
2. Do any credit cards not look at partners credit history?

1. If you owe it, pay it
2. No not unless your financially associated by a joint product (current account, mortgage etc).
There are no “joint” credit cards - just additional cardholders to the main cardholder.0 -
Also you already asked about the CC debt here:

And your score isn’t a factor used in lending so you can safely ignore the numbers0 -
Debt only affects the named account holder, no one else, unless you have a joint financial product together, as Gary has said.
It is just the one default, the credit reference agencies just update the status on a monthly basis, and will continue to do so until 6 years are up, and it will then drop off her file.
You will not get the debt written off, nor the default removed, but writing a formal letter of complaint may get you a goodwill gesture of a reduction in the amount you owe.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. By the way, you can't close a credit card until it has a zero balance and no trailing interest to pay.0 -
Whose debt is it?
This post says it’s your partners but your previous post linked above says the debt is yours.
So which is it?0 -
I wish newbies would respond to a previous thread they made rather than make a second thread which in this case is the same subject.0

Thank you for your replies and the debt for those asking is my wifes, I will ask her to put in a complaint and maybe go the ombudsman if no joy.
My concern is we have a joint mortgage and because of this when I apply for credit it is being affected although I have an excellent credit score and report.0 -
You don’t have an “excellent score”.
Well, you do for fun only - lenders don’t see or care about it.
What’s your complaint about exactly?0
