So would you rather spend good money on a service to find it fails due to welding and uneconomical to repair?

no i rather they done what any normal garage does and do the service 1st instead of screwing me over and forcing me to get the job done at there garage, i would have straight away called my own mot garage that done the brakes and get them to pick it up before a mot

EVERY garage, when given an MOT plus service combo job, will put it in the test first.

It makes basic common sense. Put it in the test, find out what's actually a problem. Move it over to the service bay, do the work for the test plus the work for the service all at the same time. If the customer is going to throw toys at the fail list, they can do so before the work's done.

No point in having it up in the air in the service bay, down on the ground and over to the MOT bay, then back to the service bay. It just wastes everybody's time.

Perhaps a better question is why, if somebody else had just done the brakes, they didn't notice the spring at that time?

well if thats the case i dont want them reports showing up on my car for any fails, you know what i will do, book it in for a service only and once they call its done i say now you can do the mot

no idea why the spring wasnt picked up on the brake job, if the job card says replace pads and disc then thats the engineers job i take it

so if anyone else is reading this take note, put your car in for service only or your going to be tied into that garage, unless you have a pickup carrier at hand

A good, proper respray on a car that size would be £2000-3000. A back street job will be less, but will look like a back street job.

I'd personally get it blown in. A full respray seems like overkill unless its had more hits than The Beatles.

    downpipe not covered

most work done before it went in for its service
4 uniroyal tyre supply nd fitted national 440, local mot garage i supply ferodo pads nd dics aprox 90 per set (180 in total)
labour 120, tracking at national offer same time as tyres 20,
conmen dealers screwed me, done the mot 1st failed it rear coil spring i went off it, this should have had its service 1st and that should have picked it up, anyway thats another story, with the down pipe dealer part only another 200 inc fitting, rear coil another 200, replace brake oil 30 mot 30, full service 250, and that comes knocing on 1500, now imagine i how i felt over that month

In fairness, you were either incredibly unlucky and all that needed done unexpectedly in the one month or you were kicking the can down the road in terms of maintenance until the last minute.

Either way, most of that was just maintenance. I'd probably have tried to budget it in advance out over maybe 3 months rather than had one big bill.

Perhaps if you simply didn't drive around with shagged brakes, illegal tyres, a blowing exhaust and a broken spring...?

This is what the rear suspension on your car looks like... (Car removed for clarity)

Tell me how somebody competent can do the rear discs without noticing the spring's broken...?

thats all it is just general scratch here and there, inc door handle where nail catches it and full bumper as explained
thats why i was thinking a back street garage its nothing big, just want the car looking good again, hope no offence coursed , just still a bit raw that was in april, i am looking at getting other co doing the next services im going to have to delve into it as its still under warranty

i will get a few prices and do reviews of the places and let you all know, not wanting it done till mid sept so be getting prices soon
