Buying white goods from seller - are they ripping me off?

  • I honestly feel like you should be saying no to these people

Saying no to the blinds would be cutting off my nose to spite my face though as it would cost me more in money and effort to get blinds or curtains myself.

For £650 I'd choose my own.... or go without.

£100 for fitted blinds isn't unreasonable as they can be an expensive faff to get/fitted.

You don't need a fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher that you've not chosen yourself, brand new.

£50 apiece just "for convenience sake" and not a penny more.

Much better to choose/buy your own 2nd hand at a fraction of those prices....

You're a FTB who doesn't have these things - easily sucked into believing they're essentials. They're not.

Just get the blinds. For the rest, take time to think/research and wait for the sales, or a good 2nd hand bargain to turn up.... choose your own.

I would have the blinds, as it it will be easier, made it measure, privacy on first night.

White goods, cheaper brand new in terms of what they are asking now.

In which case I would just reply saying:

"After further consideration, we agree to the £100 for ALL blinds to be left in place in (list all rooms), but no longer require any white goods."

Are they buying a new build that already has them in??

(Sign up for Gumtree alerts to their postcode in case they try to sell them!)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Thanks everyone.

I've agreed to pay the £100 for the blinds but will leave the rest.

Maybe the seller is prepared to take all their white goods but would have upgraded and bought new with the money made from the sale.

A curtain rail and curtains isnt much of an effort.
Depends if your picky/choosy in terms of colour etc.

How much do you value the blinds. £400 for all 4 is alot, I wouldnt have the fridge/freezer nor washing machine.

We were offered a really old microwave by our vendor, for £10. We actually accepted their offer as we were going to do some work on the house before renting it out so having the MC was convenient. In the end they decided to leave it for us for nothing. Which was nice since we paid £30K over asking. They also left us the washing machine and FF which were handy for our tenants, but we now need to get rid of as we're moving in with our own. It will cost us money to have the fridge freezer taken away as it's too scruffy to sell. Scrap metal people won't take fridges or freezers. We'll offer it out on Facebook free, but I doubt it will get any takers.

What about freecycle? Everything posted in my locals area(s) seems to get taken very quickly. Or freegle.

    Some people here ...

I would never ever pay for made to measure blinds. Make it conditional that they either leave or if taking make good any damage.
    Don’t bother with white goods.

Taking these will cost the owner more as they will pay a lot for moving and disposal. Don’t be a mug.

Sounds fairly high - I thought the vendors of our first place were taking the p a little bit asking £75 for what looked like a very old dishwasher. But we paid it anyway and I have to say, it worked perfectly for the 8 years we were there!
