Buying white goods from seller - are they ripping me off?

My seller has offered to sell me the following items:

Hotpoint fridge freezer - £250
Hotpoint 9kg washing machine - £200
Bosch dishwasher - £200

Also:
£100 all made to measure blinds

It's much more than I would expect, am I being unreasonable in my expectations or my seller?

I should be fair and point out that these appliances are probably relatively new--they bought the property new build 4 years ago so no older than then, and the seller did mention once that the fridge freezer was only a year old; and I am in need of all of these items--I'm a first time buyer and have none of these things! I was relieved when the sellers said they wantes to sell these goods but shocked at the price..

What do you think?

They're not ripping you off - they've made an offer and you need to decide if you're happy with it.

If you're not happy, say no and buy your own.

sounds a tad high for fairly bog standard appliances probably with no guarantee left. Can you counter offer - sounds like they don't want them or fancy moving them either so you could call their bluff.

Ask the models numbers and then compare prices on places like eBay. If they are good quality ones then it may be worthwhile as you could be looking at £1500+ to replace with new equivalent but if they are cheap ones then see what you can get on eBay yourself.

Curtains however i'd be asking myself do I like them? if not then its £100 on something you don't like and although replacements will cost more at least you'll like them. Consider how actually M2M they are though? Are we talking fitted into alcove like a bay window on special runners or normal shaped square windows etc that they could take them and fit them in there new house. IF the former call there bluff and say you don't want them as they are unlikely to be any use to them in there new house

If they are selling then it suggests they don't need or want them. It would probably cost them to remove them so call their bluff....£250 the lot.
  • Well I'm trying to decide exactly that, informed by other people's perspectives that might be more neutral than mine.

If the washing machine is 4 years old, it will be dead in a year.

Regular as clockwork, Hotpoint washing machines!

I wouldn't pay that for any of those items.

Really depends on the models. Some dishwashers are £1000. Some are £200.

I'd expect to pay about 50% of the original cost for anything more than a year old. Anything that's four years old, maybe 25% or less. After all you have no idea how it's been treated and therefore how long it might last. You are really just paying for the convenience of not buying a new one straight away.

If you get new ones you'll need to pay delivery and potentially fitting too for the dishwasher and washing machine - might be an extra £60 an item - unless you can transport and fit them yourself.

4 year old white goods are not worth £200.
