If you haven't had a letter yet but are in middle of contract (sept 18) can you phone to confirm whether you're subject to price increase?

I'm actually about to move house to an area without Virgin so it really suits me that I'm able to cancel without penalty, but I haven't had a letter as yet...

This is incorrect. As long as you don't disconnect your line with VM, you just ask your new provider to port your number. However you can't do it if it's a disconnected line (unless your new provider "owns" your number).
• Has anyone received their letter or email yet? Seems rather quiet on a number of forums about this, the details seems very vague so far.

Yes £4.50 pm increase full package.
• im on the full house package, so if its 4.50 for me, then thats a 7% increase on my discounted rate! Never mind when the contract runs out in October....

I called them today after my discount ended and received the price rise notification.

Unlike previous years they did not offer any discount at all and they did not attempt to retain my custom, looks like hey are not bothered if people leave any more.
My services are disconnecting at the end of the month and I,m off to Vodafone superfast2.

3 price hikes just this year alone. I am definitely thinking of leaving (been out of contract for a long while now) but I find the whole market a minefield.

Can anyone recommend providers for a simpleton who is happy with free view, needs decent broadband with no limits and still uses the landline (but might be willing to reconsider) on a anytime basis.

I feel I’m really too old to figure this out anymore.
Thanks in advance.

Look at Vodafone Superfast 2. They give you an estimated download and upload speed from Openreach. Most likely the download speed will be in the 30 to 50 Mbps range (slower than VM) and the upload speed between 7 and 12 Mbps (probably faster than VM). Ignore Vodafone's guaranteed sync speed of "55Mbps for Superfast 2", as it is not a guaranteed data speed.
For £8 a month you can get anytime calls. You'll probably face a £60 installation charge, but overall it should save money compared to VM, assuming the download speed is OK for you. Vodafone told me if I should be able to keep my VM number but they won't find out for sure until I've confirmed the order! However, they did say I could cancel the order if for some reason, the number cannot be transferred.
I didn't go ahead with the order and have no idea what Vodafone's customer service is like. I did use the above information with VM's cancellation people and they gave me a reasonable deal. Not as good as some people report on here by actually giving your cancellation notice, but something I could live with.

STILL waiting on contact from VM about the price increase, talk about dragging your heels. Contract is up October 1 anyway, but that's not the point
