Watching Simon Calder on BBC this morning - I wouldn't be cancelling the plans to travel, I'd double down on them - great bargains to be had, minuscule risks........sure, I wouldn't head to China or Italy....but other places, yup!Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0

..we had also planned some hols which we have now "put on hold" due to the reasons you noted above. Also did a slightly larger shop than normal to put a few basics into stock...not exactly panic buying and it is stuff that will get used at some point. Can't bring myself to look at our ISA's yet. (They always seem to go down a lot faster than they ever go up!....). We have a meeting with our FA next week and on the bright side, (pandemic, floods, stock market crash aside), it is probably a good time to invest!? (Just thinking about a couple of SIPPS)... to take advantage of the free money tax element...

You don't even have to go to Tenerife...they'll bring it back with them as a souvenir. I'd prefer a fridge magnet!!
We are naturally risk adverse people, when considering investments etc. so are the same with life in general. Others aren't, each to their own. However, if we were already booked, then yes we'd still go. Take extra pants and books!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -

Not sure if it actually went through, my computer's on the blink sometimes.
I actually wanted to comment on this quote - I'm booked on a cruise around the Canaries very soon, and we are indeed taking extra pants and books, and a tiny craft project too!

I have just got back from Tenerife. We flew out on Friday from Bristol just before storm Dennis caused all flights to be cancelled. We flew back last Friday just before the Saharan sandstorms caused huge travel issues. We spent one day in Costa Adeje (where the hotel in Coronavirus lockdown is) but we were whale watching and just on the beach for a bit.
We went with another family and stayed in a big villa in the North - it was lovely up there. Tenerife would never have been on my radar but I was very pleasantly surprised and would happily go back. We did activities around Playa De Las Americas, and the weather was definitely better there, but I was glad we were staying elsewhere.
We have just booked a safari for the summer - lots of open spaces and hopefully more animals than people.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

We've been to Costa Adeje before but were considering a week Santa Cruz later this year. It's a working city rather than a tourist resort but that's part of what may attract me there. The near 5 hour flight is a pain though.0

We stayed in Puerto de la Cruz. Flight was basic (EasyJet) 4:15 mins but wasn't too bad (speaking as a tall person that usually ends up with imprints of the seat back in front across my knees).I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

No idea of the new one!!Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!1 -
We're booked to go to Lanzarote in 2 weeks. Keeping fingers crossed it all goes ahead without problems. Can't wait to get away from the UK weather.
I'm deliberately not looking at our ISAs/pension pots until this all blows over. Not retired yet (hoping for partial retirement in September) so no point in worrying.

Mrs CRV is back from Costa Adeje but flew home on the 12! Weather was much better than here, we indeed got snowed in on Monday but by the evening it had melted enough to be able to drive to work Tuesday. Not looked at the pensions, rather leave them until nearer the time to use them I have put my pension forms into the Pension Officer and given formal written notice at work- taking my DB pension 1st May!
Having the whole of May off before returning to the workplace for a couple more years! Have been offered a slightly less than half time post, substantive so will work less agency work but be assured of a defined income.CRV1963- Light bulb moment Sept 15- Planning the great escape- aka retirement!3
