Checked YBS this morning.  It still shows balance of £300.   Will wait until the 14 days is up (1st Feb) and then check again.

I couldn't resist checking again.    It's now showing balance of £150, with a "cheque withdrawal" on 25/1/24.    So will wait for it to come by post.

But... the cheeky beggers have used this as one of MY allowed withdrawals, and so I can't make another until maturity, unless I close the account!!!   Tempted!!

I only made the double payment in error because THEY said the first payment had failed!!!

Not sure if I'll bother adding to it TBH.    Was only doing it as a bit of a hedge against Santander dropping the 5.2% rate that I managed to bag on their EA account.

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I prefer paying my Council Tax over 10 months as well.  At £240/month that gives £480 pounds to play with.
The 'free' months go a long way towards paying for my National Trust, Historic Houses, English Heritage and Tennis Club subscription :)
I suppose it's swings and roundabouts. You pay more per month over 10 months but get the benefit of 2 "free" months.
You pay less per month over 12 months and the surplus adds up to the same amount as you would have got in Feb and March.

    Mornings are for "doing".
I read that as "dozing", and immediately thought "ah, someone else who feells like that!"
Then I read the rest and realised that no, dozing isn't high on your list of things to do in the morning :D

Some insights into our winter "hibernation" and what we do with ourselves all day, for those who've been wondering...(I've been asked)

Mornings are for "doing".   Usually for me, it's either running, gym or swimming on 4 mornings a week.   Other mornings are taken up with domestic chores.    Late morning, is jigsaw puzzle time, while I've got good daylight.   Our library offer a puzzle swap, so I don't have to buy many new ones.  I also keep an eye on FB for any second-hand ones locally.  £3 is the going rate for decent ones.

After lunch, we tend to just have quiet time, either reading a book, or surfing around here (like I am now).

I also have some 'mindful' colouring books, and we have various Puzzler magazines too.     DH likes a nap.  I don't as I wouldn't sleep at night if I napped during the day.

Late afternoon we'll break out a board-game.   We have either scrabble, backgammon, draughts or chess.   DH usually wins the scrabble, and I win the chess.

Early evening will be a bit of radio (Greatest Hits) or a bit of TV.    With a bit more TV in the evening.

So all in all I'm either exercising my body, or my mind, for minimal £.  o:)

I'm sure for some people that's going to be their idea of hell.     >:)
Nothing wrong with that. Sounds like you enjoy it so that is what counts.

I am out and about a bit more as 2 days a week I am usually out with my walking groups either U3a or Ramblers and we walk in all seasons and all weathers. I did a lovely walk the other day Bedruthan Steps to Harlyn Bay on the North Cornwall coast with a friend. I am sure 10 miles of hill walking on a cold January day is some people’s idea of hell too 😂 Today however it is a book and surfing my iPad in front of the fire.

SeaShell - tell YBS you want to make a formal complaint, because that's just cheeky about the withdrawal! Not sure if it's still the same process from when I knew someone that worked there, but they used to be very strict about getting the complaint resolved within 24 hours (normally offering a cash amount, worked out on a set criteria)

I am terribly boring … I pay over 12 months and save the £ difference between 10 and 12 months to earn a few coppers interest.  It pleases me.

Can I briefly de-rail my own thread for a few posts.... Again!!

I need HELP with another earworm, that’s been going around my head since I heard a song on the radio yesterday!!

Why Can't We Live Together - Timmy Thomas

    https://youtu.be/cFU-FJzPE80?si=W06ifIO5TcuimxCi

However, it's not that song that I need help with, but the one that I thought it was going to be, from the introduction.

I was expecting it to be something else...but what is that something else?     I was expecting a male "speaking" rather than singing voice to start, but I can't call to mind any lyrics.    They might sound like they are speaking on the radio or over a tannoy.

I need the hive mind of my Squirrel friends (and most of you are around the right age too), as you came through for me last time.

It’s from the early 1980’s (I think).   I feel like it involves night/urban/train/station/dark...but that's just a feel from what I can hear in my head.

So please, any help with this would be appreciated.   Please post up your ideas, and I’ll go through them all later.   Let’s hope we find a winner, so I can get some inner peace (and some sleep)!

***  If you can post any ideas below, but then once I’ve given you a yay or nay, can you delete your post, so as to not clog up the thread, long term.  I’ll then update the post with the incorrect guesses, or crown the winner ***

    ***ETA***
    So, it's not...
