I just caught up on this thread. I love eating out. I especially love a good walk followed by lunch in a decent café. I used to spend money on gadgets and junk that would be thrown away in a few years, so I see eating out as a better use of my funds as getting out and about and seeing friends and family is good for my mental health and general wellbeing.
So eating out comes from my entertainment budget, like going to the cinema etc. I would eat out every day if I could!
It can be an issue though, as my new lady friend doesn't have as much disposable income (earns more than me, but pays a high rent) so we do sometimes disagree about where to go. I offer to pay, but she wants to pay her way, but that would mean we don't eat out as much, hence the possibility for disagreement. If anyone has any ideas about how to resolve that I would be happy to hear any suggestions. We have only just started dating though, so her moving in with me is not on the cards just yet.Think first of your goal, then make it happen!4 -

Dating, yes. Married....??
Each to their own and all that😉. But we wouldn't be where we are now with a "mine's mine" budget.
But then we've been together for over 30 years, not starting new relationship later in life.
*And frustrates where family are concerned!! 😡 (Long story)
In food news, we've just had an Aldi SS pizza with side salad and lager in the comfort of our own conservatory 😇How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)5 -

Or a lot of pubs do Sunday carveries where you can get a big roast dinner for around £10 each.

When I stayed in pubs ( with rooms ) for work, there were often many people eating when I arrived, and quieter when I had my own dinner later.
The reason was that it was cheaper before 7pm ( or thereabouts ) so maybe find somewhere like that.1 -

I have been married 42 years, I cant remember my wife ever paying a bill of any sort, I reason she will get it all when I die, and possibly sooner if I start being an a*se.

This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."5 -
