Haha, I came off my bike on Friday the 13th and smashed the two bones of my lower leg. I need surgery on Thursday by a knee specialist, the surgeon here said it was beyond his abilities.. Happy days indeed! : )Sea_Shell said:The sun's out and so are the loungers.

Oh no, hope all goes well. Can imagine that was painful!!! I fell off my bike about 10 years ago, hurt my shoulder, nothing too bad, but just have a slight fear on a bike and lost the confidence I had.barnstar2077 said:

I head off next week on a 360-mile pedalling jaunt between Britain’s last two iron viaducts…..hoping for no incidents like yours.Good luck with the surgery, and mend fast & well 👍Out of retirement curiosity, is that under NHS or did private come into play? I imagine the former 🤷♂️Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!2 -
On the NHS. Honestly can't fault them, the staff have all been great. I am also lucky to be in a ward of only 6 people and we all get on and help each other, with a friendly bit of banter.cfw1994 said:

I couldn't get an ambulance though, a tale repeated by most of my fellow inmates. I had to have a friend drive me to the hospital without any painkillers and with a busted up leg. Not fun, but just comes down to available crews and economics im sure.Think first of your goal, then make it happen!3 -

Ouch! "Smashed two bones of lower leg" - sounds if that definitely should have been immobilised at the scene. Hope you heal quick.barnstar2077 said:

One silver lining is presumably your friend was able to rescue your bike (which I trust is relatively unscathed?)
I was out in the Lakes a week ago, riding all the passes. There were a couple of badly-injured cyclists being treated by ambulances (Honister and Whinlatter). Both being immobilised on stretchers as I passed.
It's not normally a dangerous sport / activity, but can catch the unwary. I got flattened 2 months ago, thankfully at very slow speed, but it's 13 years since previously knocked off, and 28 years since the incident before that.2 -
Oh No. Hope you recover well. I broke my ankle 9 months ago (Stand Up Paddleboarding!) and it's been a long slow recovery.barnstar2077 said:

Glad the NHS has stepped up for you - I had the opposite. Ambulance arrived promptly but it all went downhill from there. Multiple surgery dates cancelled, 3 weeks in hospital (should have been 3 days), follow up appointments not made/cancelled, very limited physio. Had to go private for physio just to be able to walk properly.
But hubby broke his collarbone falling off his bike 6 weeks ago and his care was good. It's a lottery.
We'll be keeping private insurance going although every year we wince at the premiums.1 -

Maybe it would be cheaper just to pay as and when necessary, rather then be insured ?

Private insurance doesn't normally cover trauma. Would be expensive and probably no faster than NHS.0
