Club Lloyds regular saver matured today, opened a new one, still currently at 2.5%.

The last of a dying breed!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Do you think you'll have any fundamental differences of opinion once lockdown starts being lifted properly, as to what you both want to do?    Attend large group occasions/parties, busy pubs/restaurants, cinema/theatre etc?

As soon as the lock down is over I think I am getting on a train, booking a lodge on the south downs, and spending a few days walking. I am stuck in London, I've never gone this long before without spending time in the countryside. My OH will probably relish the opportunity of me being gone for a couple of days and organise a big night out. None of this would be unusual for us!

We have Club Lloyds just for the cinema tickets but that regular saver is an added bonus. I wonder if they keep reducing the rates will there be a time I just can't be bothered with the regular saver merry go round? I can't get my kids to use savings accounts at all. They leave thousands in their current accounts. When I tell them they could get 1% in Marcus they look at me as though I am stupid.

Yeah, I opted for cinema tickets too.   Fat lot of use they are at the moment!!! ;)

I shall however, move £5000 into the Club Lloyds at the end of the month from Marcus, as they'll both be (for me) 1.2%.  (Assuming I've got my maths right with CL?)   At least this way I have two access points for our main ready cash pots.

Even at 1.5% I shall keep opening Virgin RSs too, as it's still a little better than Marcus, especially when my 0.15% bonus ends in August.

I probably won't chase rates from any new institutions now, unless they have a REALLY good offer, as I can't really be bothered with new log ins etc, just to chase tiny amounts.

Anyone else finding that their OH is actually enjoying the lockdown, as it gives them the perfect excuse not to have to visit family!!  ;)

Mrs CRV has noticed no changes to her socialising since lockdown, she is quite enjoying that no one can up here to visit!

I think there will be a lot of changes to office worker type careers following this. Hopefully the commute will be seen as the waste it is and productivity will be seen as the key factor rather than how long one spends sat at their desk!
I was commuting about 50 minutes each way by public transport, but since mid March I have been working from home.  But even that has proved to be too much for me, so aged 52 I have handed in my notice, and will move on to "retirement"  I can't wait, all of the good financial discipline I have practiced and some good fortune along the way has enabled me to pull the plug.

Threads like this have been an inspiration, so thank you Sea Shell

Good for you!!!   Glad you've been enjoying this thread.     It's funny in that, you type away, not really having much idea as to who maybe reading it!!

During this period, we have continually counted our blessings that we don't have to return to work.   DH was in a management position and would be currently having to deal with the "fallout" of having to make the office "Covid Secure".      I think we'd have both quit now anyway!!

Hopefully we'll get our chance to really enjoy our retirement properly soon.   I'll have been finished a year in July, and we don't feel like we've been able to do much at all yet, what with the Winter being so wet and windy and now this.

We can't wait to be able to go somewhere for a couple of days, but not until we feel like we will be welcome.   Also no point in going anywhere with everything still shut.   Even a day out seems pointless still.    I'm sure like me you all want to "relax" when you're away...not having to "Stay Alert" at all times.

Maybe 2025 will be our year!!!

On the finances side, things seem to be holding up fairly well, generally about break even on this time last year.   Obviously down from the Pre-Covid highs of mid February...but nothing too scary...yet!!

Like you, I am so glad I stopped work last year.  The thought of working through this in the job I had doesn't bear thinking about.  Counting my blessings big time.

Me too.  Not so much because of the practicalities, which for a non public-facing, office-based organisation will not be complicated; more because of the inevitable and pointless committees, meetings, discussions, working groups and general ill-informed pontificating that will be happening.

I wish I was a little closer to retirement. Just got told I have to attend a compulsory business unit (400 people) all hands meeting tomorrow morning. Rumour mill has it that we are being restructured - back to the structure we had up till 2 years ago. They have realised that it actually worked quite well after all.
At least I don't have to school my expression while it is being delivered - I never turn the camera on.

    Interesting times, eh!
I’m actually enjoying work a lot right now.  Travel was mostly a bit of a ballache: we organise our own, all the faff of that....
In contrast, today our small team ran what I felt was a decent seminar to over 300 of our partners....over 80 good questions, and all most of us did was 30 minutes of presenting and lots of bantering on whatsapp/teams about how things were!
Strange, but I really enjoyed it!!
The fact that I had an hours hike with my lad beforehand, was out watering the plants by 2:30, couple of more minor calls then the kids had made a great dinner.....then I transplanted some beans/courgettes: all-in-all, a rather fine day!
Rinse and repeat (with minor mods!) tomorrow (Weds being “pub night”, where I bike for up to an hour after work to the local tiny brewery for a 4 pint takeout, meet a good pal & safely socially drink another pint on a nearby footpath before pedalling home to share the 4 with son.  Maybe a cider for the daughter!
I’m doing my best to enjoy this paid semi-retirement before someone finds me out......
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!
