You're right, we just don't know.
I could have had this thing 7 weeks ago and been completely unaware!!
Or DH could be incubating it as we speak, having braved the supermarket alone yesterday.
We just have to keep doing the best we can as individuals and keep our fingers crossed that the powers that be know their **** from their elbow. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
The Mally household is changing nothing as a result of Boris' ramblings although I might brave a garden centre in the next week once the initial flurry of enthusiasm is over. I need canes and they just aren't practical to post! The local tip is opening next week with timed slot bookings so I feel a weekend of 'sorting' coming on.
The first people we want to be able to meet up with are family - my step Dad had pneumonia in January so we need to be many weeks clear for when we are allowed to visit them (too far for day trip) and in-laws are asthmatic and in their 80s so the same applies (even further away). Both would require dogs to go to kennels so quite a lot has to change before we can go and hug them.

Why hasn't the government made sure that the Test, Track and Trace process and app is fully rolled out (and working!!!) across the whole country before lifting the restrictions, (baby steps or otherwise)?
Heaven help those people on public transport today, as they will have no idea if a person nearby them has this virus, and there is no means of letting them know.
That seems like a very sensible government strategy then, eh!!1 -
However, common sense is in the eye of the beholder.
What one person sees as perfectly reasonable another thinks is scandalous!!
We all assess risk differently, depending on our own circumstances, so any perceived "leeway" in the rules to use common sense varies wildly.
Human nature, unless rules are VERY specific. Use of words like "reasonable" or "where possible" for example.
We're basically negotiating a minefield, blindfolded. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)4 -

We're basically negotiating a minefield, blindfolded.Very trueHowever, rules are no use unless enforced, and I can't see it going down well if we had police / army on the streets checking everyone had the requisite piece of paper, or were less than 2m away from someone else, or were going 50 miles instead of 5 - and imposing large fines / imprisonment for a rule not being followed.2 -
I am fortunately able to work from home. Can imagine the panic some people felt on Sunday night as most people I know assumed you had to go into work the next day. Surely it is not too much to expect clear rules and guidelines from the Government. Not as if it was an urgent statement, they had planned to give the announcement for several days.I will be wearing my home made mask to go shopping but from what I have read outdoors transmission is really low, presumably why we are all allowed to exercise 24/7 outside and picnic etc. Though in view of that I would have thought they would have allowed family etc to meet outdoors as long as socially distanced. The Government response right from the beginning has been slow and confusing. Speaks volumes that our own Prime Minister didn’t follow the prevention advice and caught it himself by knowingly shaking hands with suspected Covid patients.Would be funny if not so sad. I attended a funeral yesterday of someone who died of Covid. Heartbreaking to watch my friend have to stand alone during the funeral due to social distancing. All I wanted to do was a give her a hug.Money SPENDING Expert2

Exactly, but there'll always be that one person, who'll berate us for our personal decisions and won't keep their nose out!!
What's that old phrase, it's better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.
For months we're going to be always questioning ourselves...Should I? Can I? Will I?
Sometimes the answer to all 3 might end up being "Stuff it, yes!!"How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)3 -

I have an elderly relative who lives their own. Ordinary they are capable of doing their own shopping etc just about, but they have been pretty much (barring a few indiscretions) self isolating for 8-9 weeks now. There's no light at the end of the tunnel for people like this. My fear is that anyone in this situation will see their last years living in fear of going out. Until their is a vaccine developed which will take considerable time and be too late for many.3
