Right, that's workable and enforceable!!     (it would be laughable if it wasn't so serious!)

Perhaps it's passed you by that many people have ignored the instructions so far. At least curtain twichers will no longer be wasting police time for minor infringements. Those that common sense have adhered and will continue to do so. This release of the brake is to monitor the effect on the R.

So we are now allowed to leave our house (and drive) for pleasure. But if we go out as a couple, we're not allowed to speak to anyone we might meet, as that's not just 1 to 1.    Even if I'm on my own, I can't talk to another couple either.
I don't think it has gone as far to say that you can't actually speak to someone you are passing at a safe distance of 2 metres when for example you are out walking the dog, or just out for a walk as a couple. But I agree the rule that you cannot for example arrange to meet more than one person from a different household at a safe distance in a public place is crazy, and doesn't seem to have been thought through properly.

Perhaps the experts criticising what has been suggested can draft something themselves that is straightforward to communicate and enforce - oh and it has to start the minute it is announced as it is silly if it doesn't start until Wednesday....
I think the Wednesday start should have been for people going back to work rather than for the exercise changes starting. Boris announced on Sunday evening that people should be going back to work on Monday morning. Maybe he got mixed up and that should have been a Wednesday start as 12 hours or so notice for going back to work would not be feasible in the majority of cases.

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Except that he never mentioned anything about people should be starting on the Monday - "And the first step is a change of emphasis that we hope that people will act on this week. We said that you should work from home if you can, and only go to work if you must. We now need to stress that anyone who can’t work from home, for instance those in construction or manufacturing, should be actively encouraged to go to work." (as reported on the Guardian website).

I certainly never took that to mean that he expected everyone in those sectors would start on Monday. If he did then he would have said "expect" instead of "hope", either "tomorrow" or just "Monday" instead of "this week", and he certainly would not have had the "encouraged" in there if he just expected them to go.

Maybe I have missed something here, I'm happy to be corrected.
Why hasn't the government made sure that the Test, Track and Trace process and app is fully rolled out (and working!!!) across the whole country before lifting the restrictions, (baby steps or otherwise)?
Heaven help those people on public transport today, as they will have no idea if a person nearby them has this virus, and there is no means of letting them know.
That seems like a very sensible government strategy then, eh!!

When you go food shopping how do you know the person beside you does not have the virus? I know we are all supposed to be 6 feet away from each other ( approx. ) but in supermarkets etc I have seen people go right up next to others to get something off the shelf.
I do not claim to know the answer to any of the problems and the truth is this sort of ongoing pandemic has never happened before in most peoples lifetime and I hope it never happens again but dealing with it is a whole new WORLD RELATED ball game and the government in some ways cannot win, dammed if they do something and dammed if they do not.
