So how is everyone getting their music metadata?

Itunes has nice layout but no way to update meta tags, maybe works fine with brand new tagless rips
Wrong. (thank you, Googler) Right click on the tune, click 'get info' I think, or 'Song info' maybe. Then you can type in all the categories, add artwork etc. You can also select multiple tunes, for example an album, to edit them all at once - using shift or control and click, like other apps.Now thinking that I am the only person in the world with a CD collection and need for metadata
You're really not, you just make life difficult for yourself.0 -
yes I've seen it thanks but it's a Windows 10 only fix which leads me back to maybe upgrading my laptopA few suggested remedies are contained herein;

I don't want to edit the tags manually I want it connected to an online database where the automatically edited and in the case of Windows media player that's exactly what happened and not only that, it would monitor and update tags automatically throughout my collection of 8000 songs, not that im expecting other things to work as well, but certainly automatic database tagging including artwork for albums i selectNonsense.
Pick the music you want to tag, and right-click on it.
From the pop-up menu that results, select Get Info and you can edit the tags to your heart's content.If I ruled the world.......0 -
My folder layout is artist, year, album title, for every single folder. There's an option on Windows media player 2 browse folder view which makes it very easy 2 identify and retag orphan tracks, for instance a well recognised album genesis trick of the tail, I might have an extended version which has got two additional tracks, so looking in folder view makes it very easy to identify whether the tagging is for the proper extended version or for the standard versionWhen you browse your collection on your PC, what folder structure is it in? Do you have folders for artists, then sub-folders for albums?
If not, what do you have?If I ruled the world.......0 -

As I've said, this happens in iTunes when you rip a CD. You may need an account. What is wrong with iTunes?0 -

I've just ripped a cd using Foobar, and ripped it to my WMP library. It now shows up OK in WMP, with all track info. (Windows 7)

Doubt it. Foobar isn't open source but it's well respected freeware so I doubt they would spam. I think this is one of those rare beast - a first time poster who is suggesting something simply because they genuinely think it would help the OP. Of course I can't yet comment on their second post
