Your thread made me laugh, more in a knowing, bitter kind of way than a cheery haha kind of way though!
I was in court this morning - my divorce finally was before the judge and granted (woohoo, but I digress!), and I had the pleasure (HAH!) of paying about ten days (my) wages to my solicitor for the privilege:eek:
I should explain that all issues were sorted between me and my ex long ago, and there were NO issues to be dealt with by the solicitors, at all!
In fact, I have only met my solicitor twice for very brief periods, and I would be extremely surprised to see how there was more than an afternoon's work on my case (and I'm presuming an incredibly slow rate of work with lots of coffee breaks at that!), and any time money was mentioned, I asked for a breakdown of the fees - none was forthcoming, and still hasn't materialised.
So I'm not in the least bit surprised at your boss's attitude!
Q: Why does the law society prohibit sex between lawyers and their clients?
A: To prevent clients from being billed twice for what is essentially the same service...I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I have recently had the fortune to become aquainted with a couple of people who stepped out of the rat race. In their former lives they were obsessed with having a nice house, new car every year, luxury holidays but had to work all hours God sends to achieve these.
They have both scaled back their lives by downsizing house, making do with older cars and even going without holidays and have cut down to part time hours. They spend their time doing simple things walking, visiting friends and family and taking the chance to actually enjoy life.
They look healthy and say they are much happer. I have been inspired and their lifestyle has become my goal too. Money isn't everything and I think it is so sad when you have to keep up an image of wealth - at the end of the day does it really matter?Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -
I used to eat a lot more HI (high interference food, for example; nuggets), but recently when ate a nice quality but none the less HI pie, I felt sick for hours after.
People who say 'my kids only eat sausage n beans', kids did'nt have them years ago yet they still ate. In other words you get what you create.
There were NO fat people in the German concentration camps which held about £6m people (not soldiers) in Germany and Poland alone during WW2.Am I just not getting this reference? I really can't understand it or the relevance to this discussion. I'm sorry for bringing it up as obviously no one else has...

People sometimes just can't concieve what being in debt or on a low income is, it isn't thier fault, they just can't understand what it's like if it hasn't happened to them.
I owe more now than I did when I was 17 in a bedsit freezing to death - thinking shall I have the lights on or cook something on the gas with my last 50p! Or has anyone left some of thier 10p in the meter so I can have a bath -& the excitement when someone forgot to take thier loo roll back out of the toilet! ( only izal medicated otherwise, yuk ) but even though I owe more now I am not hungry, I'm warm I may owe money, but I can pay the bills, & have a 3 bed hse ( with mortgage ) but on paper I suppose I am poorer, as before I may have had nothing & I mean nothing, but I didn't owe anything either. Though now, when I feel down in the dumps I think about how bad that was & I'm grateful for everything I have:T some people will never have that feelingComping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner
Married my best friend 15/4/160 -
I had the 'pleasure' of formerly working for a woman known as the 'Ice Queen' whom i couldn't stand (and I'm sure she felt the same way). Anyhow, one day I said, "I think the catalytic convertor on my car has gone................guess it's either park the car up for a few months or don't pay the mortgage this month", to which frosty boot says, "Hmmmm you should always pay your mortgage first..........and anyway having saving is what being a grown up is about". Well, didn't she just feel my wrath!
"WHAT!? ACTING LIKE A GROWN UP IS ABOUT TAKING THE FINANCIAL CONSEQUENCES WHEN YOU GIVE UP YOUR OWN INCOME FOR 7 MONTHS TO LOOK AFTER YOUR FATHER WHILE HE DIES IN FRONT OF YOU".
Her reponse, "Aye, ok".
I tell you, I could have literally kicked her up and down the office at that point. That from a woman who despite being a 36 yr old takes her AND her husband's washing to be done and ironed during the week to her elderly mother's house because she's too bloody lazy to do it herself. Not to mention that she moved into a brand new house and didn't realise for 6 months that the cooker wasn't connected up. And she thought she could lecture me on how to be a grown up?!!!!!
The words 'spoilt concieted annoying condescending waste of air' were really made for people like her.
Jeeez, how happy am I that I'm not there anymore :-)Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -

Hi,
Reading your posts, I thought I would share with you something that happened at work the other week. I work for a small local company. My annual salary is £17,000.00. The company is 'partly' run by 3 old guys (one of them is a Rt Hon - must google him to find out more!). Anyhow, we got a lot of calls in the office from foreign people asking about travel, taxis and hotels.
It then turned out that one of the directors held a 'shooting day' supposidly to drum up business - the invitees were cronies of the director.
And to top it all off, excluding flights, hotel accomodation and travel 1 day (yes only one day!!!) cost £15,000!!!!!!!!.
As you can tell, knowing that made me really want to go to work!Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,0000 -

Because it's tax-deductable. Had they just paid for it, it would have cost £15,000 + VAT and paid for out of wages that had NI + income tax deducted first. Whereas that way - it's counted as a business expense."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Hi, Thanks for the reply. As far as I am aware, it could only be a business expense if they got more business through it, these were well established clients.
Anyhow, I have decided to go back into work tomorrow (put a brave face on things), work my backside off, and leave in July, get a better paid job, and pay my debts off quicker.Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,0000
