Some people eh?

My boss was generally chatting this morning and was talking about someone who goes to his gym who he thinks is a bit short of money, the way he put it was, "he has to budget where his money goes..." as if most people have all the money they want or need (maybe they do in his circle of friends). I think I just went pink and went "What? People like me?" Probably not the best thing to say, but it just popped out.

Most of the people I know aren't necessarily struggling, but it's not a case of just buying what you want and I think it's my boss who is the naive one, not me, or am I missing something?!

I don't think I could ever not budget now even if I had loads of money. I work for a solicitor (yes, I know, explains why he has loads I guess) and he does a lot of work in the media, so I see a lot of frivilous spending by clients. I wonder if I could ever be like that, not a care in the world, not worrying about every penny.

Ho hum, I suppose if I didn't have money to worry about, there'd be something else.

Sorry about the above, not actually asking anything, but just something I've been pondering since he said it as though it was weird to "need" money.

  • Something made me stop and ponder last night, I have a half sister who lives about 2 hours away from me (quick info:kids at private school, fancy car and all the frills, etc) we were chatting on the phone and she told me how my nephews were complaining about having fresh tuna steak last week, so she went out and bought them fish fingers for a joke! Seemingly my youngest nephew got up during the meal took the rest of the fish fingers out of the freezer and put them in the bin!! I was recently very chuffed that DS had actually started liking fish fingers!

Good on you for saying something to him! People can be so very rude and inconsiderate when it comes to talking about money - especially those at work who earn bucketloads and forget that's not the case for all of us.

My boss was calling me a scrooge last week because I said i didn't want to go on the work Christmas lunch - my voiced reply was "I just can't afford to spend money on lunch with colleagues at the expense of buying presents for the people I'm spending Christmas with". My unvoiced reply was "Why would I want to spend any time out of work with you, when I have to suffer you 40 hours a week as it is?!" ;)

No, defo not. Bought flat in London for cash (talking upwards of £700K here) and I was naughty and had a sneaky peek at his tax return which I was opening the post. Lotsa money! Maybe I'm just jealous... no scrap that, defo I'm jealous!

my sister in law to this day just don't understand when we say, " Can't afford it ". She is totally thrown by the fact that people ,not just myself or other members of my family struggle all the time.

Also, what ever food we put in front our kids they eat it. No arguments, we also got brought up the same

I can sort of see what he means, but he's totally wrong to put anyone down for being sensible and careful! We've got a wide circle of friends who are in fairly good jobs - solicitors, accountants, engineers, pilots and the likes, and it's amazing how much effort is put into 'looking' as though you've got plenty of money! We used to try and keep up with a fab collection of designer stuff, house full of lovely things, and nice cars (they've long gone!), but it all comes at a cost (see sig!). I have other friends who do more normal jobs like shop and office work, and they're no less happy than the 'rich' ones, in fact often happier as there's no need to have what the neighbours have got!

It's amazing how many people who give the impression of being rich are actually in a hell of a lot of debt - very few of our friends or colleagues have the first idea that we're in debt, and to be honest, I don't really want them to! And I know that we're not the only ones - I bet your solicitor has his fair share of credit cards himself! He obviously enjoys letting everyone know that he's rich and has no money worries, whether it's true or not! Next time he brings his trumpet over to blow in your face, tell him to shove it up his backside!

Depends what your definition of food is.

We eat mainly LI (low interferance food), basically what Humans evolved on.

I used to eat a lot more HI (high interference food, for example; nuggets), but recently when ate a nice quality but none the less HI pie, I felt sick for hours after.
People who say 'my kids only eat sausage n beans', kids did'nt have them years ago yet they still ate. In other words you get what you create.

There were NO fat people in the German concentration camps which held about £6m people (not soldiers) in Germany and Poland alone during WW2.

Really insensitive of him to say something like that to someone who works for him - good for you for responding on a human level.
