Cashbacks summit in Parliament (20/11/07) Discussion Thread
Some of you are aware of this (If not, please see http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/content/17258.asp?men=0&sub=1)
If anyone has any news about what was discussed in parliament today about these issues, please feel free to share it in this thread. If possible please include any weblinks you may have relating to your sources.
Would be very interesting to hear what was discussed in parliament today and how it would shake up the industry as far as cashbacks are concerned (ain't I right 'mobilejunkie'?

I hope the MPs are aware of the latest failure of CNM & PBD this would add weight to any argument. Over the summer there was some sort of code of practice for the operators to follow when dealing with their agents.
Specifically to Mobile Media Systems - CNM & PBD I would like to ask two questions of the network providers.
1) To what extent did they know about MMS trading practice from about June/July 2007? They must have got some complaints and must have had some idea of delaying tactics like missing page scam.
2) What action, if anything, did they take from this knowledge?
MMS must have signed up 1000s of contracts during the last three months. At a time when the were deliberating stalling on cashback payments. I feel sorry for people who ordered then because they are the ones that will see nothing and have been conned because MMS knew they were gonna go under & probably so did the network providers.
the outcome of todays meeting should be published somewhere - maybe on the lead MP's website.0 -
The warning signs were there already by June/July, so to take out a contract was a gamble, a gamble you have lost, and so have I to a lesser degree.
I believe we were systematically cheated by crooks, but that's my opinion.
Unfortunately these things happen, it's not worth it upsetting you, just move on and put it down to a bad experience, at the end of the day you have a phone conract that was more expensive than it could have been.

As far as i know announcements wont be made for a week.
If legislation does come out watch out for many more liquidations.
Take that cheap cashback deal at your peril.0 -
Depends who with. Can't see cpw or Phones4u disappearing because of nanny meddling. Eh, gtz101? Maybe they can do a job lot and ban sex at the same time - that that has far worse consequences if you get it wrong (or the person you go to bed with as Quentin so eloquently puts it) does! I think that should be banned to. My pet favourite though is religion. Now that WOULD be a worthwhile target for a TOTAL ban! Lol!0

Hi there,
Is anybody else having problems with their cashback claims from Mobile Outlet?
I received the first installment with no major problem, only a light delay.
I sent my second lot of forms off within the time. fulfilling the T & C's and have had no word. I have emailed twice and had no answer, when I tried calling I was just on hold for about 50 mins and then the call was cut off.
Does anybody have any advice or know if they have gone bust...or if I have any idea on my consumer rights?
Thanks0 -

I would not build your hopes up, Parliament have been talking about mobile phone scams, ringtones scams, reverse bill texts scam, rogue diallers, etc, since June 2005 and still no legislation.
I was informed by my MP that there is a Commitee looking into telecom industry scams but it all depends on if there is enough parliamentary time. In other words we are at the bottom rung.

Again, the above-mentioned thread contains a mine of information on your problem.0 -

We shall see. I know a bit more than you as to what went on at the meeting, and I also know what MP's and Ofcom are looking at doing as quickly as possible.
They are not impressed whatsoever with the industry at the moment (mainly cash-backs and the policing of them).
As soon as I can say any more I will. :beer:0
