Does this not mean they are going to want my salary to be paid in and if so, I don’t earn that amount.
    No.

£1750 credited per month from any external source, and it does not have to be in one lump sum.

I specifically asked about this aspect recently in an HSBC branch and was advised as above.

The most convenient method is to set up monthly reciprocal standing orders between any sourcing current account of your choice and the HSBC Advance.

A TSB Classic Plus current account will give 3% monthly interest on up to £1500 - might be a good choice for the source account. It needs two Direct Debits - the Post Office and Birmingham Midshires each have savings accounts which accept £1 monthly DDs.

Here's a thought - maybe you could arrange to cycle £437.50 between the two accounts by weekly standing order ?

Maybe some of our more savvy punters hereabouts could confirm/refute that is a workaround ?

What a nightmare I've had trying to complete their online banking registration process.

I won't bore with the details, but it is as "user unfriendly" as I have come across.
  • Couldnt agree more, spent over 2 hours on the phone today trying to sort it out today.

Did you have problems with the Secure Key to complete online registration ?

It would not work on my iPhone, nor on a rarely used Android tablet - the app would download no bother, but an 'error' message persisted when attempting to finalise the inputs procedure.

Now awaiting the small "calculator" device in the mail to get this sorted.

Not impressed with their online banking system - and I notice similar comments in earlier posts.

While i agree the technology is outdated, i do like the idea of a secure key and, used with face recognition software, adds an additional layer of security to my account i didn't have with HBOS.

I just applied for their Advance Account and got the following message:

Sorry, there’s been a technical problem

I have my doubts already about applying for this one. Not a great start :(

    Do you have a local(ish) branch ?

If so, remember to take the usual ID paperwork.

I wish I gone down that route in retrospect.

Yes, I do have a local branch. I think you're right - I might be needing it!

I plan to have another crack at the website tonight. Wish me luck :D

Have just had another go - still no luck.

Has anyone else had trouble with applying for a HSBC account online over the weekend?
