Phone repair problem with John Lewis - advice needed

Hi there
I bought an iPhone from John Lewis 18 months ago with a standard 2 year guarantee. Recently it stopped turning on so have sent it in to be repaired.
Before I sent it in I took it to the Apple Genius bar to see if they could revive it. I was told it was an internal issue and would cost almost £300 to repair.
Next day, I sent it to be repaired at JL, who got back to me a few days later saying that they need to remove the screen to repair it but that there is a tiny scratch on the screen which means the screen will need completely replacing (which I need to pay for). They offered to halve the screen repair cost to £75.
It's an annoying situation because the screen was not the issue why the phone stopped working, yet it a barrier to getting the phone fixed.
John Lewis have offered me £75 in vouchers to put towards a new phone, but I feel that I am entitled to more because the primary issue with the phone is its internal workings, so I should be compensated for a value based on that, rather than the cost of the screen. I would then put these vouchers towards a new phone from JL, which would probably end up costing £4-500.
Does anyone see where I'm coming from? What's your advice on how to proceed? What are my consumer rights?
