Larmy, if you do not like any products you buy in value ranges or basics ranges you can take them back for a full refund, withour question. They will happily refund anything that, as they put it, falls below the high standard you would expect. I did this recently with some drinking chocolate that tasted fowl.
  • Think you made the right decision going for fish rather than mince, from what I have heard (and remember from student days) value mince is much higher in fat (and heaven knows what else!) so it's false economy to buy it as it shrinks so much due to all the fat, better to buy a smaller quantity of decent mince or best of all find a butcher who will mince some of his cheap cuts for you - that way at least you know what's in it. :)

I agree with the above...value mince is well dodgy if you ask me...who knows what is really in it!?It's worth 'splashng out' on some nicer steak mince.

I had the white fish fillets in my freezer so decided to use them up. They would have been much nicer in say fishcakes or a pie. I will say though that the Basics Salmon is really fantastic. I have it at least twice a week now. I was amazed how nice it is. I put it in foil in my steamer along with the veg for about 20 mins and it comes out lovely.

  • You can even get value mozzerella balls from Asda and Sainso's for about 45p! You could grate one over the top of the plates when you've just dished up and the bolognese is still piping hot. In theory it should melt and go all yummy mmm... If not give it a blast in the microwave for a few seconds till it does. Good luck with your romantic meal! I'd love to do this but my boyfriend finds my more extreme MSE tactics kind of hilarious so he'd just laugh at me!
  • Another option to value products, is to look for reduced stuff, which is close to its sell by date. This is usually better quality, but the supermarket needs to sell off cheaper
  • why not try the cheaper supermarkets lidl do an excellent bolognaise sauce and there pasta is very cheap also good range of value for money wines .....
  • You have never done this before!!!!! Yikes. Where have you been? In Siberia?

    Hi

Lurker coming out of the shadows here! Since we had our LO my fiance and I have kind of lost the spark a little. I'd love to do something romantic for him but I've no money for wine or chocs (and if I ask him for some money, he'll wonder what for!)

Can anyone suggest an old-style evening of romance? I'm not very creative at the moment - I've got new mum brain!

Have you got anyone who could have LO overnight on a fri or sat. Just a meal presented well with candles on the table, your fav music in the background. Followed by watching a movie in bed together [ doubt if you'll end up watching it to the end!]. Then the next morning a leisurely wake up, shower together, breakfast and the papers .........all sounds romantic to me and not much cost. if you don't get the paper delivered get a really good friend to deliver it for you for just that morning.
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

That sounds so lovely it brought a couple of tears to my eyes! My wonderful parents are always on at me to let them have him so that's definitely an option.
