Actually I did not put the wine down the sink after all. I remember going all thrifty and putting it in a lidded container as those rubber type cork thingys wont go back in.

We thought the meal cost around £6 in all but we did not use the alcohol.

Thanks for the tips by the way. I did think about using the wine in a risotto but thought it might be too sweet.

  • £6 that's brilliant :T

I'm not sure about the wine being to sweet for rissotto cos that's the one thing I've never made from scratch,I'm sure it would be alright for a spag bol though :D

We have had Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsburys Jaffas and my son cannot tell the difference between any of them and Mcvities or at least he says they are just as nice.

Actually Jaffas are the one chocolate thing you can leave me alone in the house with and they will remain untouched!!

I will just leave it in the fridge for a while and ponder on a use for it. We have decided to do one value meal every two months, using the different supermarkets. The reason I say every two months is I am supposed to be doing slimming world so should not be eating apple pies, syrup puddings and custard etc!!!!!!!!! fab as they are:D

  • larmy you could freeze it in ice cube trays and add them to recipes that say to add wine. you could either keep them in the tray or once frozen put them into a freezer bag.

  • Love that idea, particularly with xmas fast approaching an valuable funds going elsewhere! My boyfriend proposed last week, and of course romance is very much alive in our house!! I think we'll plan something similar, and perhaps invite the inlaws? :)

  • Hi do add horseradish sauce to your mayo and ketchup to make the rose sauce for the prawns. It gives it that zip that is missing and people normally do not know what the zip is in seafood sauce. Try it you will see and guests rave about it but don't tell the secret just say it is your private sauce. Taffy good luck
  • Think you made the right decision going for fish rather than mince, from what I have heard (and remember from student days) value mince is much higher in fat (and heaven knows what else!) so it's false economy to buy it as it shrinks so much due to all the fat, better to buy a smaller quantity of decent mince or best of all find a butcher who will mince some of his cheap cuts for you - that way at least you know what's in it. :)
