If you are going to Ikea for the plain white mugs etc. to paint, they may have some of those little tiny cheap picture frames in plain wood. These can easily be decorated...paint with acrylics, or Dylon mixed with water (for a "stained" look in a multitude of colours) then stick on "motif"...either one in one corner or scattered around randomly...these can be pre-bought...novelty shaped buttons with the loop hacked off...or made of salt dough or shrinky dinks....the possibilities are endless and less time consuming than knitting!!!!

Presentation is vital as people are attracted by colour, esp at Christmas, so
use a big tablecloth that hides all the boxes etc underneath the table!
I used square or rectangular wicker baskets to display my items, but cardboard looks great if you wrap it in Xmas paper. i used to make Xmas aprons, hanky cases, pot pourri bags, stockings...
I used to display my handmade Christmas decorations on a small tree - you could hang the reindeer food etc too!
Good luck, and let us know how you do!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Hi there, I was surfing yesterday and found this:
http://www.vintagelifestyle.co.uk/cgi-bin/vl_mkorderpage.pl?&cc_section=NA&cc_submit=continue
Decorative lanterns (aka pretty jam jars with a nitelight in!)
If it doesn't work PM me and I'll send you the link. Lord knows what these sold for - quite a bit, I imagine - but you can make them for pence and they are quite sweet. I'm having a go - sainbury have some christmassy scented candles. Jam jars - free if you save them (I've got stacks). A bit of glue, fabric, ribbon and you are away.
HTH
Link not working, if you use the first part you should find the site then I think it was under "recently sold items" or something. Like I say PM me if you want.
thay are in the garden section0 -
just a middle of the night thought..........
would anyone know where i can buy dried lavendar for my wheat bags or seeing as its nearly xmas dried cranberries?????? i live in central scotland by the way.
)
If you don't have a source of free lavender then I would use a few drops of lavender oil.
Finished size of wheatbags I have seen have been half the size of a piece of A4 paper (ie A4 folded in half across the width) and filled about one third to one half with wheat, barley, rice, millet, whatever.0 -

You don,t have much time so I would suggest buying a load of christmassy things in the local pound shop and then "ADD VALUE".
*Personalise some of those felt christmas stockings and present sacks
*buy some cheap wreaths and wire on some tree baubles
*santa mugs look nice filled with chocolates wrapped in red foil or the like
just go for a look round your local discount /pound shop and see if anything inspires you."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
why not make some of those simple fluffy scarfs that seem to be popular in lots of shops. just pick a number of stitches and the number of rows and you are done. my mum has made me and my daughter several and they only cost the price of the wool and ive seen them going for 5-10 quid in some places and that is just for the kit so you still have to knit it before you can wear it.
i also had the thought of drawer smellies, if you have got scraps of fabric cut them into squares or circles and fill with nice smelly stuff (ie lavender before it dies off or dries winter spices etc) and then tie them up with some pretty contrasting ribbon.0 -

This is a link to a great shopping bag pattern - there was a thread about it back in the summer. I have made lots as stocking fillers. HTHI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Google Martha Stewart, her site has lots of gift ideas. Also, if you google 'free knitting patterns' there will be lots come up.
'About.com' will also give lots of ideas if you search 'crafts'.0 -
