PPI .... from 1986

Options
I took out an Associates loan, well, two loans, in 1986.
I've no account details, or anything else.

Might a claim be even remotely possible?
Or is this really too much to ask without a Tardis?

Time to forget about it. Neither a claim nor a complaint would be possible now.

    Did you have PPI?

I think it was more towards the late 80's/early 90s that PPI came out, and not sure it was regulalted then. Im sure some knowledgable person will know the ins and outs and tell you if you have a case for possible complaint. I know many have been able to put in complaints from years ago, but not sure of the earliest dates.

Certainly it's (remotely) possible to have had PPI that long ago.

Certainly it's NOT (remotely or otherwise) possible that there are Bank records from 33 years ago available now.

You'd need to provide your own documentary evidence of payment of PPI, as well as valid complaint reasons.

You do not even know for sure if there was PPI, so any such speculative "complaint" is doomed to failure.

    Sorry.

Banks were indeed regulated back then but, without evidence, this is irrelevant.

PPI did exist in the late 70s, there was a post on here this year from someone who might have been one of the first to ever have it, but it took off in the late 80s with miss-selling more in the 90s.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    Thanks everyone.

I don't remember if "PPI" even being mentioned but I do remember being told there was an insurance in case I was sick and unable to re-pay the loan because I said I didn't need it as I was paid work or play, but I was told it was compulsory.
The other thing I remember is that I had to repay the full amount of the first loan, including all the interest, to get the second loan. I also remember thinking it came too late for me when this practise was outlawed.

Debt consolidation loans are still around. What made you think they had been "outlawed"? You won't have paid all the interest, you will have had a pro-rata rebate on that.

By the way, that is nothing to with PPI unless it was front loaded onto your loan string.

As above, I doubt you'll get far with a complaint about finance from 33 years ago without providing your own documentary evidence...

NO! I DID have to repay the full amount, full interest payments, etc. I did NOT get a pro-rata rebate on that.
Paying the full amount you would have paid over the full original lifetime of the loan is what was "outlawed".

No, nowt to do with PPI, but it's what made me remember it in detail. Plus, as i paid the full amount of the loan (as explained above) surely it wouldn't matter if it was front loaded, back loaded or carried upside down loaded. The FULL amount would still be the FULL amount.

    You "doubt" ... therefore i shouldn't bother?

I never at any time suggested that.

However, if you do proceed, your expectation should be that you won't succeed.

    Sorry.

As for my expectations, i have very low expectations of everything in life - always have,
e.g. I joined the Civil Defence when I was 15

    Thanks again
