No it is'nt it says go to the network and sharing centre then wireless ad hock but there is'nt any ad hock
The page I see is describing how to connect two computers using a crossover cable. It has a link to a different article which describes connecting them wirelessly (using ad-hoc networking) but why would you follow that link ?0 -
Nobody(*) uses direct computer to computer connections anymore, it's such a faff.
Drag and drop them into Google drive from one computer, log in on the other and download them to the second machine.
(*) I'll be really disappointed if I don't get 6 people indignantly posting that they do this all the time.0 -

Not a particularly helpful suggestion if one has a lot of files to transfer but only has ADSL broadband with upload speeds measured in a few hundred kbps or less.stragglebod wrote: »Drag and drop them into Google drive from one computer, log in on the other and download them to the second machine.0 -

Aardvaark, if you are using the stick as an intermediary method then you need to check that initially you copied the actual files rather than just created a shortcut to the source PC files on the stick for each file.
Check file sizes on the origin drive (one or two will be fine, make sure they are not tiny files of just a few bytes) and then make sure they are the same (approx.) on the stick for the same files (there might be a few bytes difference depending upon how they are stored but nothing substantial. If those on the stick are very much smaller than the originals and are just a few bytes long you have probably created shortcuts to the original files rather than copies. Those shortcuts will not work in the destination PC.
However I suspect it could be a file attribute problem where the destination PC user does not have the same rights as the source PC user.
Check the shortcut issue first.
If that is the problem make sure you actually copy the whole files by using right click to select files for copy then right click paste from source to stick; and then with stick on the destination PC same right clicks sequence to copy from stick to destination Pc folder. Try on just a single file initially.
Then if that is not the problem come back on here and someone will tell you what to do next with regards to checking access rights/attributes for the files.
........it could of course be another sort of gremlin!0 -
If your copy process is a one off then the stick method is fine but if it is going to be a repetitive exercise then setting up a share home group is better as it will be automatically connected and via the fast ethernet.0
