This site only makes any sense if people can read a question/rightmove link, see the feedback (as blunt or as fluffy as it is) and go "hey, that's just like my situation! I have now gained some insight!". If it's an endless parade of context-less responses to long-gone OPs, then it's pointless - people will rock up here, get their free advice, hate it, delete their OP, and disappear.

And whilst you might think my admittedly brusque appraisal might be "sport", that's merely your opinion and you're entitled to it. But don't impute a motive, please.

None of the things I expressed an opinion on can be changed, true, but they all can be placed into a context. Marketing this house as a 2-bed 2-person house might be more successful. Dropping the price 25%, Crashy-style, might also be more successful.

So, unless a mod wants to edit my post, the link is staying.

The option has to be yours to remove the link and that's easier for you to do than have the thread reported and moderators pull not just the link but the whole thread...that loses everyones comments not just the link to a property that the OP clearly doesn't want any further feedback on.
Your original comments are perfectly justifiable its just if the link has been pulled by the OP who has clearly at some point asked doozergirl to remove her link which she did.

What you then did is re use the link in a later post after the original was pulled...that's not cricket!

You posted your link after you knew the OP was clearly not wanting it there.

  • This place gives free advice that would be costly if sought elsewhere, and there's a quid pro quo for that. As far as I'm concerned, the OP is dead wrong for editing their post, having received their free advice. If they don't want further feedback, they can simply stop reading the thread.

I have learned that of all the bitter, difficult-to-hear messages you get when transacting property, "you need to be brutally realistic about both the value of your house and its target market" is both most important and hardest to accept.

I will say that a previous poster is correct in that people looking at your age of house will also be interested in brand new ones and will have been in their show homes which are presented to a high standard. I like new builds and I have been in hundreds of showhomes and when I look on rightmove at nearly new homes they almost certainly don’t have the same appeal. I have just sold (twice) my 5 year old house fairly quickly and what I did was totally de clutter every room and then leave just the basics but with the odd picture etc so it doesn’t look too bland. It has been a pain and when we have been showing people round for a viewing it’s a nightmare putting all of our ‘real life’ things in the boot of the car so it looks show homey to them. It’s a lot of work but seems to have done the trick as out of 6 viewings we had 4 put an offer in. So maybe just make it a bit more neutral and have different pictures and that might do the trick.

    I couldn't agree more. It isn't cricket.

I didn't report it initially as I thought I'd try to explain that the OP was genuinely upset and sent me a nice message asking me specifically for a 'favour' in removing it, which I did. I'm also privy to a back story now.

That's been overturned by quantumlobster as it somehow being in the public interest for the OPs house to be posted on the internet now without their permission. It isn't and so I've reported it for the mods to decide. There's thousands of threads like this from my 15 years on this board where the OP has left their link up.

Let's act like grown ups. If someone doesn't want their house on this board, respect it. Consent has been withdrawn.

A 3 bed semi is generally a first family home so decent living space and garden for the money are often key.

    Its not a semi

We're currently looking to move to a house like yours (just not in Hampshire) and I quite like it.
The one big deal breaker for me is the north facing garden. I'm pretty sure it only looks as small as it does because of the lousy photo and the kids stuff taking a lot of the space.

If it were my garden, I would get rid of the decking and lay a pale stone patio and some artificial turf.

This is exactly what I meant when I said that at the moment the property really reflects the people and the family that live there but not necessarily the personality or taste of the target market or next buyer.

Its clearly not a family home that the current family want to continue to live in,they are selling it but some buyers cant always see themselves living in a place that's got for example all the kids toys in the garden. What they need to see is almost a neutral space that they can personalise in their own way.

Sometimes its easy and relatively cheap to change one thing the problem comes when its a case of every room needs something doing to it.Possibly a reason that I'm not a fan of pink rooms and anything overly feminine in colour..it probably stems from bringing up boys

I liked the decking,I hate artificial turf but if I bought the property from you pimento at least its not a huge thing to change.

I totally agree with you and your sentiment and yes the OP could just have stopped reading the thread, they probably have. What they also did was take steps to remove a link to a property they owned which again is their prerogative to do so.

You relisted the link after they had removed it...that was not your link to reinstate knowing that the OP didn't want it made public again

Just occasionally I put links to personal photos in a part of this site that I inhabit. Apart from one person, whom I had to nudge, no one quotes the pics, so once I delete them, they're gone.

People know that if that wasn't the way, there'd be no more pictures.

Similarly, if people can't post and later remove Rightmove links, there might not be many of them in the future either.

    Precisely, that is the point.

Marketed as a 3 bed semi when it isn't
