Looks like you have made some good changes and the saving is good. Any more idea what your maternity leave pay will be yet? Meal planning is sensible to minimise food waste.

  • Hello! I’ve looked online and it looks like I’ll get £2998 during the reduced pay part of my maternity leave. So not too bad but I need to make savings. I think I can definitely save on food and petrol costs
  • Ps when I’m on mat leave my OH should be able to work a bit more so anything he earns will go to debt. I’m not going to count that though as I want to work on the basis of my guaranteed earnings only.
  • I’ve been reading through a few diaries and I’ve seen people say good things about the YNAB software. Is it worth trying do you think? At the moment I’m keeping track in a little notebook!

Also I’ve seen people mentioning that the subscribe to diaries. There’s some I’d like to follow but can’t work out how! Any tips?

    Thank you!
  • Not much to report here. Just been chipping away at the debt. Quite a few small overpayments but it all adds up! Helped by OH being paid for a few bits of work. Debt now stands at £12,102.86 not bad!

I get paid on the 24th - will definitely get into the 11’s before then.
  • Sounds like you’re doing great, how exciting to be nearly in the £11’s! X
  • Thank you @Dancingintherain

Hopeful that I’ll get the energy refund this month which will take a nice chunk off too
  • Have just totalled up the food spend so far this month and it’s coming in at £131. There’s still one week and two days til I get paid but I think we will only need a few fresh bits before then.

I’m really pleased with this. We’ve been trying to cut back but haven’t felt deprived at all. I’ll see what it comes in at on payday and then look for further saving opportunities.

I should say I haven’t had to buy much in the way of cleaning things because I did a bulk order of method products a few months ago when amazon had a special deal (that will probably last us a year).
  • Visited my parents today and just relaxed in their garden so no money spent at all. My dad has six apple trees and they are all eating apples (we’ve got a big old tree ourselves but it’s cookers). My parents never manage to eat all their apples and leave them out for people to take so as I was sitting in the garden today I was wondering how I might use them later in the year.

We’ve got a chest freezer in the cellar so there are possibilities....just need to plan!
