Samsung Galaxy S10+

Good morning.

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy S8 which I have had for almost 2 years. I am due an upgrade in 4 weeks and wanted some advice please.

My current phone now has a crack in the screen and my first question is what should I do with it? To sell it online as it is would only get me around £50 back and if the screen was fixed I could get around £180 however the cost of repair I don't believe makes this a viable option. Therefore, does anyone have any ideas? I unfortunately do not have phone insurance.

Also, I am looking at upgrading and I like the look of the Samsung Galaxy S10+. Does anyone know any deals or tips for getting the best price? I am currently with EE and the deal I had on my Samsung S8 was £37 a month which I got when it was first released so it was a very good deal. However, after doing my usual searches online (uswitch etc...) I cannot seem to find anything close to this. Can anyone please help?

Thank you

Mat

Compare the overall 2-year price of the 'upgrade' you are being lured into with the cost of buying the handset SIM-free independently plus the cheapest SIM-only deal with any network that suits your usage requirements.

If the latter is significantly less, as is likely, ask EE for your PAC thirty days before the end date of your contract's minimum term, quote the cheapest SIM-only deal you have found when they ask where you're going, and it's almost certain that they will offer you a discounted deal that matches it, in order to retain you. If not, just move to the one you found.

Sorry I'm not much help with that, being often in East Asia I buy my handsets there. But I'm sure there's plenty of availablity if you check around.

Some buy online from Asia, with good results, but for such a pricey phone you probably want a solid warrantee.

The S10+ 512 looks around £700(equ) in Bangkok, but not much use unless you're going there on holiday. If you did, you could replace your S8 screen for a fraction of what it costs in UK.

  • Rather than looking at the phone and then trying to find a deal. I would suggest looking at the amount you are happy paying and then finding a phone in that price range.

The S8 looks a steal at £399 or the S9 at £499. If I was wanting flagship Samsung that’s were I would be spending.

I don't see the fascination with getting the 'latest and greatest' phone and paying a fortune for the privilege. I'm still using an s6 I bought for £150 second hand from my BIL a few years ago (wife still using an s5 even older) on £8/month SIM only deals.

I can stream on it, email, text, web browse, play music, take pictures plus all the other 'extra stuff' that comes with mobile phones and pretty much everything you can do on an s10 - maybe slightly worse pictures but who can seriously tell?

Oh, I can also make and receive phone calls

I may get an s10 one day, probably when they release the s15/s16 I think :D
  • Have you seen the current deal with Three for the S10+? I can't see it on their website but I went on moneysupermarket comparison site and searched for the s10+, filtered by Three and 20+gb. The deal is £29 upfront, £38 per month, 100gb and unlimited texts and minutes.

    Thank you that's great.

I wonder if EE would price match that?
