windows 7 problems

I had this come up


This program can't start because api-ms-win-downlevel-advapi32-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer.


I tried replacing but when I go to add file to system 32 in windows it says I need administrator permission.


I tried a few online ways but hasnt worked.



Ive also tried re installing windows 7 but it wont let me as it is built into the laptop. which is a Sony VAIO. ive also tried F8, F10 and the assist button, but none give me the option to reinstall can anyone help.

Strange statement. Most laptops have the operating system pre-installed. Nothing unusual in that and certainly no impediment to a clean install or repair install.

What the full model number of your laptop?

A more pertinent solution initially would be to do an SFC check rather than just download arbituary files from the internet.

When I try a new copy it says its already installed on laptop so wont do it ans to try through laptop.



Then when I go though the laptop there is no option where there should be its gone. Im also replying by here by using my phone so sorry if its not clear.

But going forward, since support for Windows 7 is ending mid January, you should think about moving to Windows 10. It's free.

Further to that, it would be the perfect time to fit a solid state drive to your laptop. It's a relatively simple process. It will transform the current performance of your device and also eliminate the problem you are having now.

The current storage medium in your laptop is slowing everything down. You are in luck, as your particular laptop has a dedicated hatch for the hard drive. So it literally takes a few minutes to swap drives.

If access to the drive is as easy as indicated above then I echo the suggestion to go for an SSD. I did this and the difference is night and day!

In my case I put the old HDD into a DVD-shape caddy so it's internal to the laptop, and the DVD drive I plug in via USB on the rare occasions I need it.

I already have a samsung ssd in it which I use, I wondered if the fact im using an sad is the reason I cannot find a way to reinstall windows 7. As I have sad do you have an easier method for me to do this should I wipe it and start again but this I imagine would loose all of my Sony info?
