Looking for a bigger car, do I need a diesel
My son arrived 6 weeks ago and my 62 plate ford focus just doesn't seem big enough. The travel frame and carrycot takes up all the room in the boot, and with the car seat and isofix in place, it was an extremely tight squeeze for 2 small to average size people to fit in the back.
I've always owned Petrol but I'm wondering if I'll be better off with a diesel. I do a 15 mile trip to work. 5-6 miles of which is dual carriage way 70mph. And 3-4 times a year I'd do 600 mile round trip to my parents. Along with short trips here and there, and probably more day trips/holidays now we have a little'n. I usually do about 10-14k miles a year
I like the look of the Mazda 6, Kia Sportage, Mondeo and Passat. My budget is 10-12k :T

Buying a smaller pram and travel system will be far cheaper than changing the car. Lots of people use the focus as a family car with a baby.0

Ford Focus is fine for what you need..... unless you'd 'like' something else!0

I bought the focus 18 months ago and really did think it would be fine. I'd like to see a smaller travel system than the one we've got. All the others we saw were massive compared to our cosatto. So yes I would like a bigger car, as well as maybe changing to a diesel. 0

Yes another nice looking car. Worth a look0

Mr ski put a cement mixer, two labourers and still found room for me in a focus0

You must have a very dirty car0

You must have a very dirty car
Not at all
Im just pointing out, that a focus really holds a hell of a lot and that was a one off
Most of the time it was two adults, two kids, two dogs - we all fitted with plenty of room
But you obviously want another car and are obviously just looking justification0 -
Our Almera was the same size as a Focus and we always got everything in there with a baby. I would put the £10k in the bank in case you need that more than the car.
Anyway, no the prevailing advice now would not be to buy a diesel. You don't do enough miles to make it cost effective and diesel ownership is only going to get more inconvenient as time goes on. For your budget you will be one or two NCAP generations behind on all of those cars. Which will put you on the wrong side of most of the proposed ULEZ zones in the UK and abroad.0
