Deleting NHS records

Register for online prescriptions, when its set up just order the meds you need.
It really is as simple as that.
Stop stressing about a name...you will make yourself ill.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Have you got any old letters with your NHS number on? I only ask because when they had the wrong middle name for me it was because one hospital had assumed I was another person with the same first and last name and DOB in the local area and from then on all my records were put on her NHS number. Our records got combined for years and my personal sensitive information was sent to her address (she must have kept updating her address and that automatically updated "my" address at any hospitals or clinics I went to).Mortgage at 30: £204,750 (08/2020)
Current mortgage: £145,448 (11/2024)
Goal: £145,000 by 02/2025
End goal: Mortgage free asap!0 -
Have you ever changed your name by deed poll etc? Have you ever used another name? (I can't understand why they would have an alias for you under ordinary circumstances).
If you have reliable ID, I don't see why they can't rectify this. Ask to speak to the practice manager and explain about the name problem and the prescriptions you don't need. If they can't, or won't rectify it, ask them why. I find it hard to believe they point blank refuse to discuss it with you.
If no satisfactory response, make a formal complaint, and if no satisfactory response to that, complain to your local CCG - Care (or is it Clinical?) Commissioning Group - they're responsible for GP practices in your area. Again, explain the name problem and, more importantly, that they're prescribing unnecessary medicines (if that is what they're doing).
It is probably a clerical error or confusion over two or more people with similar names. If you know your NHS number that would help you get this sorted.
I used to work in the NHS and, unlike some of the other replies, I think it is important to get your full name correct. (In my case I'm known by middle name which has caused much confusion and amusement in my dealings with the NHS as a patient).
That should deal with the NHS part of it. As others have suggested you may want to make a complaint to the ICO. I say "may" because if you do, you may find your practice even more unco-operative. Shouldn't happen, but I have known of examples.
EDIT: Have you asked your pharmacist for assistance in sorting out what you are being prescribed? Our local community pharmacist is excellent and in the past has contacted our surgery to rectify prescriptions. Pharmacists can be really helpful.0 -
This is not a consumer rights issue.
Your local Healthwatch may be a better source of information and advice about the situation.
As has already been stated, you have two complaints; firstly that the surgery will not amend your records to ensure that they are "correct." Your opinion of what this is may not necessarily be the legal definition of your name or identity.
Secondly, you say that the practice is prescribing unwanted medicines. This may be true, in that you are choosing to not take them, but the GP may have reason to prescribe them. Either way,you deserve an explanation and to reach agreement on their future deletion from any ordered prescriptions.
You may have a third complaint about the general manner in which your complaint has been handled.
That said, the surgery will have a complaints procedure. You ( or your representative or carer) should request a copy and follow it. If resolution is not obtained, you can escalate the complaint to the Clinical Care Commissioning Group, as stated earlier.
If as a result it is decided that the relationship between yourself and the GP has broken down, you will have to transfer to another practice. If this proves difficult, the CCG will have arrangements in place to allocate you to a surgery.
As I find the situation described to be somewhat incomplete, I can only surmise that there are other considerations beyond those stated and including the practice's viewpoint. I do have my own suspicions about the origins of the situation, but accept that it would be inappropriate to explore those, unless perhaps you could give the names (or comparable example) used as first and middle..0 -
It's really quite simple.
Practice Manager.
If they refuse to ammend then a c/o to the infromation commisioner.
Is their more to this story as it seems bizzare they won't correct it?. We have a number of patients that use their middle names as the first names which causes no ends of confusion e.g. Sorry I can't find any records for a Louise smith oh no you will have me down as rebecca as that is my real first name' etc.0 -

We are at deadlock... they pointblank refuse to discuss the issue...
Have emailed NHS but they said it could take 20 working days. Not got many meds left!
Since you already have some meds is this a recent problem?
Make an appointment to see your GP and get him/her to sort it out. He can also confirm what meds you have been prescribed.0 -

I find it hard to understand why - on production of ID - they are refusing to amend their records or even discuss the matter.saperstein wrote: »Loss? lets try the several hours I've tried to sort this out, lest not forget I cannot collect my prescription because I have erroneous meds on said prescription and I cannot afford to pay for four items when I only need one.
The surgery refuse to give me a paper FP10 - they insist on sending it electronically with things I don't wan't and I don't need and have never been prescribed.0 -
This whole thing sounds odd to me.

I'd find this more worrying than them having my name wrong.
Yes to all that, especially the last bit - that is worrying.

You confirmed that you understood board policy on asking for legal advice and the basics of forum choice - So why post in an inappropriate forum and ask?0
